Today’s Maker Spotlight Monday is featuring Mary, the creative genius behind Strangebird Stitching! Here’s a little about her!
Mary is an artisan based in the UP with a degree in musical theater, where she first developed her sewing skills in the school costume shop. After graduating, she moved to Marquette to get a break from city life and immediately took to the outdoor lifestyle that the U.P. had to offer. In 2015 she began making bike pogies for her favorite local bike shop (shout out to Sports Rack!) to help fill a need when the options were slim. This initial venture led her to expand her work to include embroidery and other boutique and custom sewing projects. Now, 15 years later, she resides in Halfway Village with her husband and two young children. Her work reflects a commitment to quality, craftsmanship and a connection to the local community.
