What are Pocahontas County Parks and Rec Programs?
If you’ve been following along, you know Pocahontas County Parks & Recreation is about a whole lot more than parks and basketball gyms! We have several CORE PROGRAMS that happen regularly throughout the month, offering something for just about every age from our littlest county residents to adults and seniors! 💚

☯️ **TAI CHI**
📅 Mondays | 6:00 PM
💲$3 per class OR covered with Wellness Center membership/SilverSneakers
Tai Chi combines slow, controlled movements with balance, breathing and focus. It’s a gentle, low-impact way to improve flexibility, strength and stability and it’s great for a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

📚 **CHAPTER CHASERS BOOK CLUB**
📅 2nd Monday of each month | 18+
Our adult book club reads a little bit of EVERYTHING! Different genres, different perspectives and usually some pretty great conversations. Whether you read every page or show up saying, “Okay, so I almost finished it…” we’re happy to have you. 😂

💜 **PROOF OVER PRESSURE**
📅 2nd Monday of each month
Proof Over Pressure is the Pocahontas County Prevention Alliance a new evidence-based approach to prevention in Pocahontas County focused on bringing people, organizations and community voices together to make a difference. And we are ALWAYS looking for new members! 🙌
If prevention, youth, families or simply making Pocahontas County stronger matters to you, send us a message and come see what POP is all about!

💃 **ZUMBA**
📅 Tuesdays | 5:30 PM
📅 Thursdays | 5:00 PM
💲$3 per class
Exercise that feels a whole lot more like a dance party! 🎶 Zumba combines upbeat music and easy-to-follow dance moves for a fun cardio workout. No dance experience required, just come move!

🥋 **TAEKWONDO**
📅 Wednesdays
💲$3 per class OR covered with Wellness Center membership
13+ Can come build strength, coordination, discipline and confidence while learning martial arts skills and techniques. A great way to stay active while learning something new!

🏀 **ADULT BASKETBALL**
📅 Thursdays | 6:00 PM
Weekly pickup basketball primarily for adults 18+. Skilled high school players ages 16+ may occasionally be cycled into play at the program instructor’s discretion. Come ready to play, compete and get a good workout in!

👶 **JIGGLE, GIGGLE & WIGGLE**
📅 Fridays | 10:00 AM
💲FREE!
Our baby & toddler playgroup is geared toward little ones who aren’t quite preschool age yet! 💛 The goal is simple: PLAY! We give little ones a chance to socialize, move, explore and practice some of those skills that help prepare them for preschool. Some weeks are open play at the Wellness Center, other weeks we have organized activities, and when the weather cooperates you may even find us meeting at one of our parks!

🌟 AND THAT’S JUST OUR CORE PROGRAMMING! 🌟

Throughout the year, PCPR also offers pop up programs, seasonal activities, special events and community programs for kids, teens, adults and families. And we don’t always stay inside our own building! You’ll find us popping up at community events like First Fridays, partnering with schools for programs like Nature’s Mountain Classroom, hosting activities in our parks and bringing recreation into communities all across the county.
Basically… if something fun is happening somewhere in Pocahontas County, there’s a pretty good chance PCPR is going to show up.

We love getting out into our communities, trying new things and giving Pocahontas County more opportunities to
PLAY, MOVE, CONNECT & HAVE FUN!

📲 Follow our page so you don’t miss our pop-ups, special events, schedule changes and everything else we have coming up! You can also visit our website for a live calendar view, to make reservations, or buy/renew your fitness memberships!

We are excited to announce that Phase 1 of our fitness center upgrades at the Wellness Center is officially complete! 🎉

Over the last year, we have made several improvements, including replacing our cable machine through a great opportunity with Silver Creek HOA, painting with the help of volunteers, reupholstering some much-needed equipment through Queen B’s Upholstery thanks to a generous anonymous donation, and rearranging our machines to improve safety, egress, and use of the space. We also removed old and broken equipment.

As we move into Phase 2, we will be oiling and greasing all machines, completing maintenance on our weight plates and barbells, and continuing to work on grants for new treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes.

A huge thank you to our customers for sticking with us through all of the changes, upgrades, and rearranging over the last year. We truly appreciate your patience and support!

If you haven’t visited our fitness center yet, we would love to welcome you! Come check out the improvements, see what we have to offer, and become part of the Wellness Center community.

💚 A BIG THANK YOU FROM PCPR! 💚

We’ve said it before, and we’ll keep saying it because it’s true: we simply cannot do what we do without this community. Every program, event, park improvement, facility upgrade, and project we take on is made better because of the people who continue to show up and support us.

We are incredibly thankful for everyone who supports us, helps us, volunteers with us, serves on our board, has joined our Proof Over Pressure group, participates in our Hillsboro Park Committee, attends our events, uses our facilities, works out at our fitness center, partners with us, or simply cheers us on. There are so many people who contribute to what we do, and we owe some BIG thank-yous!

A NEW LIFE FOR OUR FITNESS EQUIPMENT!

Our fitness center has recently undergone some pretty major upgrades (and we’ll spare you the before pictures). A lot of our equipment may be older, but it is still structurally in great shape. Unfortunately, the padding was becoming worn and had started to become a safety concern.

Thanks to a very generous anonymous donation, we were able to have that equipment repaired and receive some much-needed new padding!

A HUGE thank-you to QueenBee1755 right here in Marlinton for doing this work for us. The quality of these repairs is absolutely incredible. Honestly, far better than what we could have purchased from a manufacturer. Everything was repaired and redone right here in Pocahontas County, and we could not be more grateful.

This donation has given our equipment a whole new life and will allow us to continue using it for many more years to come.

KEEPING THE POOL GOING!

While the weather hasn’t always been as cooperative as we would have liked the last few weeks, we are incredibly thankful for the support that is allowing us to keep the GBO Pool open on Saturdays and Sundays throughout August!

This pool season has truly been a community effort. From those who donated, volunteered, helped spread the word, worked at the pool, shared our posts, visited the pool, and supported our efforts in so many other ways we are grateful for every single one of you.

A BIG WIN FOR STILLWELL PARK!

We also have some great news for our soccer players!

A huge thank-you to our County Commissioners for supporting the purchase of some new equipment that will be used throughout our parks across the county and especially at Stillwell during soccer season! Keeping our parks maintained takes a lot of work, and having the right equipment makes a HUGE difference.

LITTLE LEVELS ACADEMY PARK

We also want to give a very special shoutout to our Hillsboro community members who continue to put time, energy, and heart into Little Levels Academy Park.

They continue to work toward seeing this project through to completion, and it is another project that simply would not be possible without the help of so many generous people.

We are so thankful for everyone who has volunteered, donated, helped plan, or simply believed in this project from the beginning.

THANK YOU, PENDLETON COMMUNITY BANK!

A huge thank-you to Pendleton Community Bank for thinking of us during your volunteer day! They are always willing to jump in and help throughout our community, and we are so thankful for everything they do beyond banking. Your willingness to give your time back to our community means so much!

BIG DREAMS FOR WIDNEY PARK!

Our partnership with WVU Extension is continuing as we work on plans for the redevelopment of Widney Park, and we are SO excited about what is ahead!

This is a project with some big ideas, big dreams, and lots of planning. We’re looking at designs, phases, and ways to make Widney Park an even better place for our community.

This opportunity is possible through grant funding and the partnership with WVU Extension and the Landscape Architecture program, and we are incredibly excited that they chose Pocahontas County and Widney Park as one of their locations! We can’t wait to see where this project takes us.

AND FINALLY… THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING SUMMER!

We were VERY BUSY every single week! From Tai Chi and Taekwondo, to book clubs, teens dancing around in inflatable costumes, tie-dye, games, activities, and everything in between, you all made this summer so much fun.

We are so thankful that you chose to spend your summer with us, try something new, bring your kids to an event, join a class, or simply stop by and be part of what we’re doing.

As summer winds down and another school year begins, we just want to say THANK YOU.

Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for volunteering.
Thank you for donating.
Thank you for partnering with us.
Thank you for believing in what we’re trying to build.
And thank you for making Pocahontas County a community we are so proud to serve.

We truly couldn’t do it without you.

From all of us at Pocahontas County Parks & Recreation, we hope everyone has a wonderful, safe, and happy school year!

And as always… we’ll see you around the parks! 🌲💚
