Happy Heavenly Birthday to Zokucho Harry Rosenstein, founder of Kanzen Gojuryu Karate.

Born 82 years ago, Zoku Rosenstein built this school from the ground up in 1974 and dedicated his life to teaching strength, respect, and character.

He left us in 2020, but his influence is everywhere: in our students, in our traditions, and in the community he created.

We honor you today, Zoku.

Thank you for giving us a home, a purpose, and a legacy worth protecting.

Zokucho Rosenstein was interviewed for this article to set the record straight.

I do have to take note of the impressive kick from the young Karateka will the full head of hair in the upper left picture.

25 years in a blink!!! Today marks the 25th anniversary of Kanzen Karate Academy in Marlboro, NJ. I have assembled any group photos I could find over the past 25 years.
I hope if you are seeing this, you are perhaps in some of these photos and can appreciate the time you spend and spent in the dojo.
On April 16th, we will be having a pizza party with games and prizes for students, their families, and anyone interested in taking classes.

Every now and then, you have that amazing class that is worth discussing.
Shihan Loeb came by to say hi, and after a little begging, he ended up teaching a two hour class. Memories of 35, 40 years ago flooded back . If you were ever a student in his karate class, you will remember the physical and mental exhaustion of trying to keep up with his brain and teaching methods. I was proud of our students for hanging in there as Shihan Loeb had us doing new things we haven’t done before. Was just such a great class; totally old school.

25 Years of Kanzen Karate Academy!!!!
On April 2, 2001, Kanzen Karate Academy opened its doors with the blessing and permission of Zokucho Harry Rosenstein. What began as a vision rooted in Kanzen Goju Ryu tradition has grown into 25 years of teaching, discipline, respect, and community.
I am deeply grateful to my senseis, students, families, and everyone who has walked the dojo floor with us over the years. Your trust and dedication made this journey possible.
Here’s to honoring the past, living the principles today, and continuing to build strong martial artists and great human beings for the future.

On a positive note, one of our brown belts, young Evan, went to an Olympic style tournament last weekend in PA and took home a couple trophy’s for kata and kumite.

I’m not a fan of these tournaments but they exist and are popular. Since we don’t train for tournaments, this made it extra special.
