Towards the end of the session I’ll ask you to bring your little one to the pool wearing clothes, normal diaper, and shoes.

Because many baby and toddler emergencies don’t happen at planned swim times.

They happen without swimsuits. They happen in normal diapers. They happen any season.

ISR is a program with a built-in lesson designed to mimic an unplanned water entry. We keep it short, and it’s not a ā€œtestā€. It’s to practice the feeling and weight of clothes, which can throw any age off when in any type of water. Because pool close and summer ends, but water is around all seasons.

To help families be safer around water during the cooler seasons, I have a free Indiana Family Water Safety Guide, just message GUIDE and I’ll send the link to download :)

Babies be sneakingšŸ•µļøā€ā™€ļø

That’s why layers of protection when it comes to water safety is the best strategy. What are layers?

-closed gate around a pool
-swim lessons
-knowing CPR
-locking doors (including dog ones) that lead to pools/outside as much as you can
-bright swim suits
-being within arm’s reach in the water when swimming with a little one
-designating a water watcher at gatherings

All little things that add safety around water any season. Because babies be sneaking! šŸ« šŸ˜‰

There’s a reason the AAP and CDC recommend arms reach supervision when swimming.

When a little bug missteps, being close enough to physically intervene immediately can make the difference between noticing and rescuing.

Regardless of swim skill, nothing can raise the level of safety like an attentive adult in the water with little bugs. 🐳

Where’s the first place I look when I can’t hear my toddler bopping around the house?

Our pool. Even though it’s behind a gate and two doors, even though they’ve been told they have to ask, I check there first.

Seconds matter, and if that was where they were, I would have gained minutes.

Pools close. Water doesn’t. For more water safety tips for all seasons, I’ve got a free Indiana Families Water Safety pdf I’ll send a link to you if you message me/comment GUIDE.

As the season comes to an end, I’m looking back at all the missed texts I have and making sure to catch up with everyone I didn’t get to since I was so focused on lessons this summer. What a blessing to meet so many new faces and families this year!

I’m proud of the bugs I got to see and how they conquered the water this summer. Just a bit more time with a few of the latest bugs as we start clothes and parent lessons this week. Then the lesson season for WaterBug will officially be on rest until 2027 šŸ‘šŸ˜Š

Swimming with your kids is also how you can maintain their skills!

To complete an ISR session, we include a day with you in the pool with me and your bug so I can show you how to practice your new waterbug’s skills.

So hop on in parents! You in the water adds another barrier of protection of water safety 🐳

Pools close. Water doesn’t.

All of us encounter bathrooms with bathtubs and toilets.
Many of us take vacations to lakes or oceans.
Many of us live by or visit places with creeks and ponds.

The question for water safety preparation is not ā€œis my child swimming?ā€
It’s ā€œcan my child access water?ā€

To help Indiana families navigate water hazards in off seasons, I created a free Indiana Family Water Safety Guide.
āž”ļøComment ā€œGuideā€ and I will send the link to download.

Because pools close. Water doesn’t.
