Everything is moving along well. We received the special use permit and we are working out the details with Alpine County and USFS before signing. We have also been told that the SNC grant evaluation team will recommend to their board that our grant be funded in full. As soon as the details are worked out with the SUP we will start volunteer workdays prepping t-pads, building trails, limbing and brushing. When the grant is officially approved and funded in fall we will begin hazard tree mitigation and equipment installation. Thanks for your patience. It will be worth the wait.

This may be long and boring but... Important progress was made at this mornings Alpine County BOS meeting. Alpine County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Alpine County Community Development and Alpine Outdoor Recreation Association (AORA)/ Markleeville Disc Golf (MDG) proceed with the final application for the Sierra Nevada Consevancy Sustainable Recreation, Tourism, and Equitable Outdoor Access Directed Grant Program. If secured these funds will be used for parking lot improvements including a new vault toilet, and expansion and leveling of the Charity Valley Trailhead parking area. And a portion of the grant can be used for infrastructure needs, reducing the burden to our sponsors and allowing for a swift completion of the project.

Today we also heard confirmation from the Carson Ranger Districts District Ranger, Matt Zumstein, that our Special Use Permit is on track to be issued this spring.

If grant funds are secured we hope to provide incentives to volunteers including everything from prize money for logo design, to purchasing all products and provide incentives for volunteers to build custom benches. We also hope to be able to provide food and drinks to volunteers during construction.

A lot relies on this grant, but that said, if we don't recieve this funding we will still proceed, although at a slower pace and with greater demand from sponsors and volunteers, leaving a need for further grant funding to complete the parking lot upgrades. So please wish us luck with this highly competitive recreation grant.

Please feel free to ask questions in comments or contact me directly at [email protected] or text to 209-217-7973. I often don't get phone calls or phone messages due to our lack of cell coverage.

Thanks, Andy Lovell, Director AORA/MDG
