We had the incredible honor of being a small part of connecting two pretty amazing people during the Badger 50. ❤️

As many of you know, Mike Steinke Jr. put together a special tribute kart body dedicated to veteran su***de awareness—a cause that means so much to him personally.

Mike created this body with the intention of running it for ONE NIGHT only at the Badger 50. After the race, the body was raffled off, with all proceeds being split between May Festival and the Dakota Anker Memorial Scholarship Fund.

But one of the most meaningful moments of the entire weekend happened when we were able to introduce Mike to Michelle, Dakota’s mom.

Mike was able to tell her about the tribute body, what he had done with it, and why he chose to give a portion of the proceeds to Dakota’s scholarship fund. Even more special, he already had the Anker portion of the proceeds in hand and was able to give it directly to Michelle that night. ❤️

The pictures below are just a few of the moments I was lucky enough to capture during their conversation.

There are some moments at the racetrack that have absolutely nothing to do with who takes the checkered flag—and this was one of them.

It was truly an incredible moment to witness, and an even bigger honor to have played a small part in bringing these two together.

Thank you, Mike, for using something you love to bring awareness to something so important, and for choosing to honor Dakota’s legacy along the way. ❤️🏁
