This week, the lines were painted for three new pickleball courts on the existing basketball court at Hanna Park. This multi-use space will allow for both basketball and pickleball to be played.

Portable nets are stored at the SE corner of the soccer mini-pitch. To gain access to the nets, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (319) 447-3590 during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and request the padlock combination. If you plan on playing during the evenings or weekends, please call ahead during normal business hours. In addition to nets, limited paddles and balls may be available in the secured storage.

Users are responsible for disassembling the nets and returning any borrowed equipment to the storage area. The department expects all users to be accountable and treat the equipment, facility and players with respect. Have fun!!

Are you looking for a fun & family friendly activity to kick off your summer? Well you're in luck! The Friends of Marion Parks is hosting a series of "Fun with Friends" events starting with a Photo Scavenger Hunt that begins today!!

To participate in the Photo Scavenger Hunt, forms can be picked up at the Lowe Park Office, City Hall, or printed from the Marion Parks & Recreation website. A link to the checklist will also be posted below.

RULES: Visit four (4) Marion Parks and identify the items on the scavenger hunt sheets. Check or “X” each item as you find them. Turn in your completed forms and any photos/selfies of your family completing the scavenger hunt at the Parks Office in Lowe Park. Prizes will be mailed after August 7. Forms must be turned in on or before August 7 to be eligible for prizes.

We're at the Cedar Rapids/Marion Area YMCA with Marion Parks and Recreation sharing Soccer Home Kits. These were funded by friends of Anna Tuuri and the Keep The Game Beautiful Podcast who wanted to share their love of the game with others.

We hope these children enjoy having a ball, cones, books, and a basket to use as a goal of their own. See you at the mini pitch soon!

An exciting opportunity is coming up on June 14th. Erica Suter, Fit Soccer Queen, is coming to town with Women Lead Change.

Erica is a passionate Youth Speed, Agility, Strength and Conditioning Coach in Tampa, Florida and online, who has been working with athletes for over ten years in performance enhancement and injury prevention. She is also author of The Strong Female Athlete book, which is a science-based and experience-based text with a fresh, novel approach for youth female athletes to improve speed, reduce injury, and increase strength.

Her mission is to help them become strong, resilient, and creative through exercise, while inspiring them to love movement and sports – to not see these as obligations, but rather, enjoyable escapes from the stressors of life.
