🔥 A NEW $44.99 NATIONWIDE HUNTING APP IS TAKING AIM AT onX’S $99.99 ELITE PLAN — BUT IS SAVING $55 ACTUALLY WORTH SWITCHING?
Hunters have another mapping app to choose from.
HuntScout officially launched nationwide on Sept. 3, 2026, covering all 50 states plus nine Canadian provinces.
And the price is going to get people’s attention.
HuntScout’s North America Pro plan is currently $44.99/year.
For comparison, onX Hunt Elite is $99.99/year.
That’s a difference of $55 per year.
But cheaper doesn’t automatically mean better — and onX has a HUGE head start.
So we dug into what HuntScout actually offers, where it appears competitive, and where onX and other established hunting apps may still have the advantage.
🗺️ WHAT DO YOU GET WITH HUNTSCOUT?
HuntScout says its North America Pro membership includes:

Now compare that with onX Hunt:

onX Elite monthly: $14.99/month
That means HuntScout’s nationwide annual plan is actually about $5 cheaper than onX’s TWO-STATE Premium plan.
And it’s $55 cheaper than onX Elite.
That’s a pretty aggressive price.
⚔️ SO IS HUNTSCOUT ACTUALLY AN onX REPLACEMENT?
Not necessarily.
This is where the comparison needs to be fair.
HuntScout may offer a lot of the core features many hunters actually use:

HuntScout includes a Deer Movement Forecast, weather information and hunting-party tools.
But HuntStand may still have an advantage for hunters wanting specialized whitetail information.

HuntStand Ultimate — $99.99/year
Ultimate includes specialized features such as 15-day game-activity forecasts, advanced rut maps and a dedicated Whitetail Habitat Map.
So if you’re primarily interested in rut timing, whitetail habitat and deer-movement forecasting, HuntStand deserves to remain in the conversation.
🗺️ AND THEN THERE’S BASEMAP
BaseMap currently offers:
Pro — $39.99/year
Pro Advantage — $69.99/year
Pro Ultimate — $99.99/year
Its $39.99 Pro membership includes nationwide land ownership, 3D/offline 3D mapping and basic hunt-planning information.
That means HuntScout isn’t automatically the cheapest nationwide hunting map either.
What makes HuntScout different is the combination of U.S. + Canadian coverage, regulations, seasons, land access and AI assistance at the $44.99 price point.
⚠️ THE BIGGEST REASON WE WOULDN’T CANCEL onX JUST YET
HuntScout is brand new nationally.
That’s important.
Mapping apps earn trust in the woods — not in an advertisement.
Before relying on HuntScout for a serious hunt, we’d want to see how it performs through an entire hunting season.
Questions still worth answering include:
• How accurate are its parcel boundaries and landowner records?
• How frequently is satellite imagery updated?
• How reliable are large offline-map downloads?
• How much battery does it consume during an all-day hunt?
• How reliably does GPS tracking perform without service?
• How quickly are ownership changes reflected?
• How quickly are emergency regulation changes updated?
• How accurate is its AI Regulations Assistant when dealing with complicated hunting regulations?
• How well does it perform after thousands of hunters begin hammering the system during peak season?
That doesn’t mean HuntScout has these problems.
It means the app hasn’t been around nationally long enough for hunters to establish the same field-tested track record that onX has.
And there’s one warning hunters should remember regardless of which app they use:
📌 AN APP IS NOT A SURVEY OR THE LAW.
Property databases can contain errors.
HuntScout itself tells users to verify local regulations and boundaries with the appropriate government agencies before hunting.
And we would absolutely verify anything produced by an AI regulations assistant against the actual state wildlife agency before betting a citation on it.
