Big Fifth Inning Rockets Devil Dogs Past Darlington Junior Legion, 14-4.

The Post 5 Devil Dogs scored eight runs in the fifth inning helping them defeat Darlington Post 13 Junior Legion by score of 14-4 on Monday at Fox Field in Marion. Those distancing runs came in rapid succession. An error scored the first one and then Caden Lee singled, scoring another. Hayden Smith then singled to score one run and Aiden Lancaster singled to score another. One more error scored the fifth in this frame when Nijel Smith, a pinch hitter, smashed a double scoring two more runs. Finally, an error scored one more run to place the Devil Dog tally at 14, enough for the mercy rule win though other runs were still coming in.

The Devil Dogs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Jayden Welch doubled to center field. Bryson Davis grounded out next, with each scoring one run. A walk drawn by Caden Hyatt pushed in another run and extended the Devil Dogs lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Darlington roared back in the top of the third to make it a competitive game. Post 13 retook the lead at 4-3. Christian Oliver singled, scoring two runs, and a passed ball scored one run. Then, Dawson Ham singled to score the go ahead run.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Devil Dogs went back to work. Hayes Williamson singled down the left field line, and Caden Lee flew into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

Bryson Davis earned the win for the Dogs. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Blake Zigler led things off on the hill for Post 13 Junior Legion. The hurler gave up three hits and five runs (three earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking seven.

Leadoff hitter Hayden Smith led Marion's Jr. Legion with two hits in four at bats. Williamson and Smith each drove in two runs for the Devil Dogs. The Dogs had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks in the game. Aiden Lancaster, John Bohachic, Caden Hyatt, and Braxton Bailey led the team with two walks each. Most impressive was that the Devil Dogs didn't commit a single error in the field! JJ Welch was impressive at shortstop with four put-outs in the field.

Oliver drove the middle of the lineup to lead Darlington. The center fielder went 2-for-3 on the day.

Marion will enjoy a much-deserved break for the remainder of the week and the begin a series with Manning next week on the road Tuesday and home again on June 17th at 7PM at Fox Field.

Clutch Hitting Devil Dogs To Take On Post 13 Darlington

The Devil Dogs will need to continue their clutch hitting when they take on Post 13 Junior Legion on Monday at Fox Field in Marion, SC. The Dogs have the knack for the big hits this season as they've driven in six batters when they had two outs. Jayden Welch leads the team in this category with (3) three two-out RBIs.

Devil Dogs Defeat Darlington Post 13 by 12 to 5 Score

The Marion Jr. Legion Devil Dogs easily dispatched Darlington Post 13 on Thursday by a 12-5 score. The Devil Dogs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Hayden Smith doubled down the left field line, and then Post 13 committed an error, each scoring one run for a 2-0 advantage. Darlington's Pearson Frick doubled to right field, which helped Post 13 tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.

The Devil Dogs took the lead in the top of the third. Aiden Lancaster hit into a double play, but one run scored, to give the Dogs the edge at 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Post 13 went into the lead after Seth Watts homered to left field, and Miquel Garcia tripled down the right field line, each scoring one run. (4-3). Lancaster then singled to right field, which helped the Devil Dogs tie the game at four in the top of the fifth.

Post 13 Junior Legion took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Frick singled, scoring one run, to give his team the upper hand at 5-4. A few hits later and a single by Jayden Welch then gave the Dogs the lead at 7-5 in the top of the sixth.

Then the Darlington wheels came off. Marion's Jr. Legion Devil Dogs scored five runs on one hit in the top of the seventh inning. An error scored one run. Watts induced Bryson Davis to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run still scored. Another error scored one run, and then Welch drew a walk, scoring the fifth run. (12-5)

Nijel Smith earned the win for the Devil Dogs. The lefty came in to get a crucial bases loaded strike out and only gave up one hit and no runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Watts took the loss for Darlington's Legion. The righty went one inning, allowing five runs (one earned) on one hit, struck out none and walked two. Lancaster stepped on the bump first for the Devil Dogs. He allowed nine hits and five runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking one. Garcia stepped on the hill first for Darlington Post 13. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and seven runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking five.

Welch provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Devil Dogs with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Smith and Lancaster each collected two hits for the Dogs. Welch led Marion's Jr. Legion with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game and turned one double play.

Post 13 tallied 10 hits in the game. Frick drove the middle of the lineup, leading Darlington with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 4-for-4 on the day. Garcia collected two hits for Post 13 in three at bats. Post 13 turned two double plays in the game.

The Devil Dogs will play next at HOME (Fox Field) on Monday June 8th at 7PM to finish this series with Darlington.
