Devil Dogs Defeat Darlington Post 13 by 12 to 5 Score

The Marion Jr. Legion Devil Dogs easily dispatched Darlington Post 13 on Thursday by a 12-5 score. The Devil Dogs got on the board in the top of the first inning after Hayden Smith doubled down the left field line, and then Post 13 committed an error, each scoring one run for a 2-0 advantage. Darlington's Pearson Frick doubled to right field, which helped Post 13 tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.
The Devil Dogs took the lead in the top of the third. Aiden Lancaster hit into a double play, but one run scored, to give the Dogs the edge at 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Post 13 went into the lead after Seth Watts homered to left field, and Miquel Garcia tripled down the right field line, each scoring one run. (4-3). Lancaster then singled to right field, which helped the Devil Dogs tie the game at four in the top of the fifth.
Post 13 Junior Legion took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Frick singled, scoring one run, to give his team the upper hand at 5-4. A few hits later and a single by Jayden Welch then gave the Dogs the lead at 7-5 in the top of the sixth.
Then the Darlington wheels came off. Marion's Jr. Legion Devil Dogs scored five runs on one hit in the top of the seventh inning. An error scored one run. Watts induced Bryson Davis to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run still scored. Another error scored one run, and then Welch drew a walk, scoring the fifth run. (12-5)
Nijel Smith earned the win for the Devil Dogs. The lefty came in to get a crucial bases loaded strike out and only gave up one hit and no runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Watts took the loss for Darlington's Legion. The righty went one inning, allowing five runs (one earned) on one hit, struck out none and walked two. Lancaster stepped on the bump first for the Devil Dogs. He allowed nine hits and five runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking one. Garcia stepped on the hill first for Darlington Post 13. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and seven runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking five.
Welch provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Devil Dogs with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Smith and Lancaster each collected two hits for the Dogs. Welch led Marion's Jr. Legion with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game and turned one double play.
Post 13 tallied 10 hits in the game. Frick drove the middle of the lineup, leading Darlington with three runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 4-for-4 on the day. Garcia collected two hits for Post 13 in three at bats. Post 13 turned two double plays in the game.
The Devil Dogs will play next at HOME (Fox Field) on Monday June 8th at 7PM to finish this series with Darlington.
