Dear SMWYC Members,
Amid ongoing concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19) and following the governor’s guidance to avoid or slow the spread of the disease, it is with great sadness and deep concern for our members, community and staff that we have made the decision to temporarily suspend access to our beloved Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club as of Monday, March 16, 2020, for a period of 2 weeks. This closure is not mandatory, but rather, a social distancing measure.
The Junior Program will remain in place using our outside facilities, county restrooms and the Junior Room. Access to the Small Boat Fleet, Kayaks and Paddleboards will remain available using the garage and outside facilities only. When accessing these, please use your best judgement and follow the recommended health and safety guidelines.
Personal lockers will also remain accessible through the garage only. Please take any needed precautions in cleaning/disinfecting your lockers as necessary. Due to the Clubhouse closing, persons will not be able to gain access from the locker area to the Clubhouse.
We are currently working to develop a member to member communication system beyond email and Facebook. This is so members may keep in contact with each other, continue to grow sailing and cruising plans, and create a space where members can connect and remain in partnership with the Club.
Please stay tuned for future “This Week” emails, direct emails and our page for further Club updates and additional details about our member to member communication system.
Although the Clubhouse will be closed, staff will be answering the phones during our regularly scheduled office hours in order to answer your questions and assist in your membership needs. Rachel and Deb are reachable at their respective emails, or at the office number of 310 827 7692.
Please feel free to contact your Commodore, Wendy Sarnoff, via email at [email protected] should you have any questions.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to closely monitor the situation and evaluate additional measures to support our members, community and staff. We wish you health and safety during these challenging times and look forward to reuniting in health and joy!
Club Pride,
Commodore Wendy Sarnoff
