A message from Terry:
Today, we share the sad news of the passing of our cofounder and longtime CEO, Rich Boggs.
Rich co-founded The Step Company, dba MOSSA, and served as CEO from 1989 to 2020, helping build not only a company, but a community and culture that continues to impact people around the world.
To many in the health and fitness industry, “Big Rich” was larger than life. He was a true entrepreneur, an eternal optimist, and a force of nature whose enthusiasm was impossible to ignore. He could walk into any room and leave having made a new friend. His energy, vision, and belief in people inspired countless employees, partners, customers, and industry leaders over the years.
I joined MOSSA in 1992. Over the decades that followed, Rich became far more than a leader. He was my mentor, my colleague, and ultimately one of my closest friends. Through economic challenges, industry changes, and countless business decisions, we always found ourselves aligned in our commitment to people, purpose, and doing the right thing.
One of Rich's greatest gifts was the way he treated others. He cared far more about enthusiasm, character, and passion than titles, age, gender, or background. He believed deeply in people and gave them opportunities to grow and succeed. This is why his official title at MOSSA became Chief Cheerleader. That belief shaped the culture of MOSSA and remains one of his most enduring legacies.
Cathy, Rich, and I shared a bond that is difficult to describe. For decades, we trusted one another completely. Through every challenge and every success, we supported one another and moved forward together. It was a truly unique relationship, and one for which we will be forever grateful.
While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a remarkable life and the lasting impact he had on so many people. The values, optimism, and passion that Rich brought to MOSSA continue to guide us today.
A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Morningside Presbyterian Church, 1411 N. Morningside Drive NE, Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Please join us in remembering Rich and sharing your memories of the tremendous impact he had on our lives, our company, and our industry.
