Ultra-processed foods are engineered to override your natural hunger signals, but new research shows the damage goes way deeper than empty calories.

A study of over 17,000 men linked high consumption of these foods to serious long-term health risks like chronic inflammation, blood sugar crashes, and poor gut health.

This isn’t about eating perfectly or giving up the foods you love. It’s about making whole foods your everyday default and saving ultra-processed options for the occasional exception.

Awareness is where it starts. What you do with it determines your health.

If you're currently on Ozempic, Wegovy, or another GLP-1 medication and the scale's moving, that's awesome news and you should feel good about that progress.

What does the rest of your plan look like?

The medication handles appetite control, but it can't protect your lean muscle, build functional strength, or set up habits for the long haul. Research shows that without strength training, up to 40% of weight lost on GLP-1s can come from muscle, not fat. That means you can end up lighter, weaker, and dealing with a slower metabolism.

Medication is a powerful starting point. Pairing it with resistance training, adequate protein, and proper coaching is how you make those results permanent.

Most people approach their fitness like it’s an either-or decision. Either they strength train or they do cardio. I understand why, because time is limited and it can feel like you have to pick a lane.

A University of Queensland study that followed more than 8,000 adults over nine years just gave us some of the most compelling data I’ve seen on why combining both is non-negotiable for long-term health.

Adults who did both strength training and cardio regularly had a 23 percent reduction in cancer risk, a 24 percent reduction in hypertension, and up to a 50 percent reduction in type 2 diabetes compared to those who only did one or the other.

Those are not small improvements. Those are life-changing numbers.

Cardio strengthens your cardiovascular system and improves circulation. Strength training builds muscle, protects your joints, and raises your metabolic rate at rest. Together they create a level of chronic disease protection that neither one produces alone.

You don’t need to spend hours doing both every day. Two to three strength sessions and two to three moderate cardio sessions per week, done consistently over time, is what produced those results.

If you are not sure how to fit both into your schedule without burning out, that is exactly what we work through together.
