It has been a packed week, lots of hunting for ourselves and with friends, working and life in general with the pups, then there is a special track most trackers don't get often.
Here is that story..
His story begins where he finally had a few to do some hunting for himself today. He wasn't in the stand long before a shooter came along.
He took the shot and didn't see his buck go down...so he got out of his stand and backed out.
Instead of taking a risk he called us and said "Im going to tell you something you probably never heard before"..."I also run a tracking dog" (with good success I might add!)
He went on to explain his dog was at the vets, had just been fixed yesterday and he needed a dog, that he needed us. The rain had washed his blood away and the chances of tracking this deer on his own.
He also told us he had some friends offer to help do a grid search, but running a tracking dog, he knows better, that this would ruine the track for a dog if he needed to called one in and decided best to call us.
Jamie took Willow out, the hunter took us to the shot spot and Willow got right on the track. She advanced the track past last known blood, and continued to the small creekside and pushed on up the creek locating the deers crossing.
After crossing the creek, a doe jumped and she had to be restarted, made a few small circles and took off to a sharp left and headed toward the roadside.
The hunter and Jamie both thought this was the least likely place for the deer to go...so he restarted her again closer to road but back a little ways.
She went to the road again and this time they crossed and once they got back into the woods another deer jumped and took off. At this point they weren't sure if she was follow the live deer, but she quickly showed them different when she suddenly jacked her nose in the air and pointed like there was a bird in the brush pile in front of them...(her tale tale sign the deer she's looking for is right there)....
Jamie circled her around the brush pile and she pointed again toward the brush...and then Jamie saw it...a buck hiding in the pile and was still alive.
The hunter walked up and quickly fished it off and this picture was taken minutes later.
Rick Mittica it was a pleasure to be there for you when you needed us. We will keep your name and number on the phone as a go to tracker when someone needs it for sure. You are one of the good guys
