In SCRAMBLE, the point cards follow the same scoring system used in IBJJF competition.

Takedowns. Sweeps. Guard passes. Knee-on-belly. Mount. Back control.

If you train, it will feel instantly familiar. If you don’t, they’re a simple way to learn how positional dominance is rewarded before the hunt for the submission begins.

Technique Tuesday // Scissor Sweep

Simple to learn. Difficult to master.

The Scissor Sweep is one of the first techniques we are introduced to, but it remains effective at every level. More than just a sweep, it teaches timing, angle creation, and how to use leverage instead of strength.

In SCRAMBLE, the Scissor Sweep earns 2 points, just as it does in competition—a small detail that reflects the game’s roots in real jiu-jitsu.

What’s your go-to sweep?

SCRAMBLE didn’t start looking like SCRAMBLE.

These photos show a few of the prototypes created over nearly 3 years of development. The first deck was printed and assembled at home and used a tall, narrow card format inspired by vintage Chinese playing cards. From there came more home-printed versions, several professionally printed prototypes, countless revisions, and eventually a complete redesign of the artwork.

In total, the game went through 7 prototypes and 4 focus groups before arriving at the final deck shown in the last slide.

It’s easy to look at a finished product and assume it started that way.

The reality is usually a series of experiments, mistakes, and incremental improvements.
