It's time! Maquoketa Caves State Park & the Friends group will begin boiling the sap collected, on Friday, March 6 & Saturday, March 7 from 8:00-4:00. The event will take place at the sugar shack located near the youth camp area. The public is invited to stop out during those hours to learn how the process works & see sap become syrup. It's that time of year! The weather is looking good to begin tapping trees. We are going to start tapping trees this Thursday, February 5. If you would like to help tap & set the bags up, meet at the Sugar Shack, near the youth camp area, at 4:30. Come see where maple syrup comes from!

First Day Hike at Maquoketa Caves State Park was a success. Eighty plus hikers & volunteers showed up in 14° weather to start 2026 off on the right foot, or maybe it was the left foot! The weather was 'almost' perfect for a January winter day...no wind. The hikers said they got warmed up on the brisk hike. Enjoy and comment on the pictures. Come hike the trails when it's not 14°! Thanks to those who braved the cold temps & started 2026 hiking the beautiful trails!
