If you think about it, Iowagames is offering a two-fer. On the 18th of July is the Open Martial Arts event, and on the 19th is the Taekwondo event. The open martial arts event offers open forms competitions, weapons divisions, breaking, team forms, and TWO different kinds of point sparring! The taekwondo event offers Olympic style competition. Martial Arts are steeped in contradiction, like a warrior bunny or a gardening tiger. Heroism is often found in such contradictions. A pathetic little bunny, taking on a the hazards of warfare, or the capably vicious tiger choosing a peaceful life of gardening. Martial arts desires to capture these contradictions, balance them and exploit their power.
The strong and swift and vicious, become peaceful and mild. The small and weak and fearful, become mighty and cunning.

March and April saw Team Blue compete in three tournaments; The Bill Auvenshine memorial tournament, the Riverbend invitational, and the AAU qualifier in Clinton.
These events challenge us to evaluate ourselves more accurately, to face fears, and to grow stronger through simulated conflict. We dare to believe, to strive, to square up with other great martial artists, but mostly this is great fun. We support one another. We make friends. And we win trophies together.
