Lydia Johnson Dance (LJD) The Creative Approach

LJD teaches a unique blend of Dance Technique and Choreography. No prior dance training is necessary. We are an alternative to commercial studio dance education encouraging imagination and creativity while offering excellent technical training taught by NYC dancers and professional instructors. Unlike most other dance programs LJD believes that t

echnique is best learned as children use their creative energy to compose their own dance works. In discovering the power of different movements and vocabularies, students become motivated to increase their technical range. The works presented at the end of each class series are totally choreographed by students using the compositional techniques that have been worked on throughout the semester. Our Fall semester concludes with Open Classes where the young dancers pieces are shared. Our Winter/Spring semester concludes with evening performances ( 1st grade and up) on the stage The Woodland in Maplewood Village. Unlike a standard recital, however, the evening is a joyful sharing of the dance work created by our students!
