I wasn’t sure if I’d ever share this project but the time has come. A couple years ago I decided to try my hand at painting the Minnesota state trout stamp.
This idea stems from a high school assignment of listing 100 life goals. They didn’t have to be realistic, winning the trout stamp contest was one of the goals I recorded. A decade later I thought it would be fun to see how I’d do.
I took a trip to Whitewater State Park and gathered a bunch of reference photos (I love my job). You can see the iconic limestone bluffs in the background and a typical MN rainbow trout being released from the net under the surface. I ended up placing third in the contest which was a disappointment as I don’t like to lose.
The original is painted on hardboard in acrylics mostly brushwork with some airbrushing also.
I have decided to release a limited run of 25 signed and numbered prints to fund my pursuit of the next unrealistic goal of mine. Prints will ship next week, lowest numbers in order starting with 01/25. 20% off for a limited time.
Original is available. Contact me if interested.
