Wallace Decoys

Wallace Decoys Official page of Wallace Decoys. Spearing decoys are used for the sport of darkhouse spearing. Wallace Decoys is owned and operated by Eric Wallace.

All decoys are carved, painted, and tested for optimum quality. Eric has been wood carving for many years now, and has narrowed his profession down to carving spearing decoys. Decoys are carved from a block of wood, painted with either airbrush paint, acrylic paint, or a combination of both. Wallace Decoys offers a few different categories of decoys. On this site you will find the working class de

coys. These are the most economic efficient decoys, the ones that have lesser detail, but has the bright colors to lure in the northers. This is the best selling category and is most popular among the guys who spear. The next level up is the full realism class. This class of decoys are working decoys, meaning they swim just as well as the working class decoys but offer the finest detail, and highest realism of decoys. These decoys range more in prices due to the fact they take longer to carve and paint.

I wasn’t sure if I’d ever share this project but the time has come. A couple years ago I decided to try my hand at painting the Minnesota state trout stamp.

This idea stems from a high school assignment of listing 100 life goals. They didn’t have to be realistic, winning the trout stamp contest was one of the goals I recorded. A decade later I thought it would be fun to see how I’d do.

I took a trip to Whitewater State Park and gathered a bunch of reference photos (I love my job). You can see the iconic limestone bluffs in the background and a typical MN rainbow trout being released from the net under the surface. I ended up placing third in the contest which was a disappointment as I don’t like to lose.

The original is painted on hardboard in acrylics mostly brushwork with some airbrushing also.

I have decided to release a limited run of 25 signed and numbered prints to fund my pursuit of the next unrealistic goal of mine. Prints will ship next week, lowest numbers in order starting with 01/25. 20% off for a limited time.

Original is available. Contact me if interested.

Another Perham in the books. Made some new friends this year and saw some old ones. Big thank you to everyone who stopped by and purchased a decoy, or just to chat. It was a great show!! I have updated my website with the leftover decoys from the show- and a couple of one of a kind collaborations. Until next time.

‼️Big announcement today‼️

After months of discussion, Wallace Decoys has officially partnered with P.E.T.A. (Pike Ethical Treatment Alliance) in an effort to reduce the number of innocent sucker minnows used as pike bait each winter.

Together we believe handcrafted wooden decoys are the humane alternative.

Saving baitfish one decoy at a time.
