Sometimes it’s just one at a time but hey, I’ll take it. I had my work cut out for me to get this dude. He was coming in the trap at all different hours of the night, skipping days here and there, then when I thought I had him a few days ago, my battery went out on the controller but we got him this time.

Last night Harrison saw me working on one of the hog trap controllers and he asked if I was getting ready to put a trap out and if he could come with me. I told him I was going to put one out in the morning and that of corse he was welcome to come with me if he was awake when it was time to leave. Unfortunately he was still sleeping this morning so he didn’t get to come with to set it up but he got a second chance this afternoon to come help when I had to go out to replace a camera and bait a trap.

Now that it’s evening time, I’m getting several pictures from all the cameras and as I’ve been scrolling through the photos, I saw some of Harrison from today standing in the trap and it got me thinking of all the times he’s been out to help with trapping. He might not be big enough to move the panels around but he definitely knows how they go together and how the electronics work. He is also very quick to tell me when I’m doing something wrong and his favorite part of everything though is being the corn kicker. lol

It’s been great having him there to help over the years but the biggest blessing has been the father and son time it’s given us to spend together. I’ve never been a big picture taker, so I’m thankful for game cameras that not only capture pictures of animals, but also catch memories that will last forever.

Picked up one of the traps tonight and got it all set up for a new client that has had hogs coming to her bird feeder. Wouldn’t you know it, within two hours we already getting pictures of one hog checking it out. Didn’t drop the gate because I want to see how many are coming in together first but it’s always great to see them the first night in a new spot.

Wow can’t believe we’re half way threw the month and I just got my first group of hogs of the year. All my other traps have been rented out and catching but I have been slow to the game. This particular trap had been out for a while in the same spot. We hadn’t seen any hogs lately so I was planning to move it but then the land owner called and said they had hogs tearing up his yard again. So about a week ago we rebaited it and here we are with a group of 4 decent size hogs. They aren’t massive but they sure can do a lot of damage in a short time. Here’s to another year and hopefully we can do even better than last year.

If you wonder how well built my traps are, you can see this a dent from a tree limb that fell about 30’ onto one of the panels after our last storm. The small dent should be able to bend back out and just then just weld the horse panel back to the frame.

With the New Year upon us, I’m thinking about putting on a trapping tournament in 2025 and I want to get peoples opinions. I’m thinking if you rent a trap, you will be interested into the contest, if you already have your own trap/‘s, the entry free would be $100. Whoever catches the most over 1 year would get $500-$1000 depending on how many sign up. Only rules would be that they have to be trapped and a picture would be needed as proof of catch. This is just an example/ idea since it’s not set in stone yet. If you have hosted or participated in a hog tournament before, I’d love to hear your thoughts or ideas. Thanks y’all.

If anybody is looking to rent a trap, I have one coming back on Monday that will be ready to go right back out. I also have another one out at a friends property that can also be available as well. They rent for $125 a week and you are welcome to use them as long as you need. Pick up in Many LA or if you need one deliver and set up, I’m happy to arrange that as well.
