Saved By The Balls saw victory slip away on Friday during the Season 3 Championship game when a nine-run fifth inning lead disappeared after a furious charge from Pitch Slappin' , who ended up with a 14-13 win. They combined for six hits and nine RBIs.
Saved By The Balls jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the top of the first. After Cory Merck tripled, Saved By The Balls kept the pressure on Pitch Slappin' pitching, as Cadie Larson singled, plating Merck. Saved By The Balls then tacked on more runs when Larson scored on a walk by Ray Cartwright, Hunt scored on a walk by Laura Adams, Fletcher and Cartwright scored on a two-run single by Michael Laukaitis, and Adams and Laukaitis scored on a two-run single by Kate Hunt.
Saved By The Balls scored one run in the second inning, and then followed it up with one more in the seventh. In the second, Saved By The Balls scored on an RBI single by Merck, bringing home Ben Caldwell.
Pitch Slappin' quickly matched Saved By The Balls' strong inning with a two-run inning of its own in the second. Pitch Slappin' scored on an error and a walk.
It didn't take long for Pitch Slappin' to answer as it scored five runs of its own in the fifth. Pitch Slappin' scored on a walk, a two-run double, and a two-run single.
Pitch Slappin' tied the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly that scored one runner. The lead stayed with Pitch Slappin' after the seventh, when it scored two runs on two doubles.
