Recently, I was lucky enough to participate at โ€™ Career Exploration event. I had an absolute blast meeting and speaking with the kids and seeing many familiar faces. In 5 different time blocks, I had current/former students and even children of students in 4 of them!

During my presentation, I brought in objects that might bring more Q&A to me in an attempt to engage with the students rather than just speak at them. One of them was โ€˜s 2016 World Championship medal, which is when this photo was snapped.

Reflecting, I am so proud of this moment to this day. We had nothing at the time - no house, shared one vehicle, barely had money to make it out to LA, and did most of our training in our living room and at a local YMCA. Our priorities were completely out of order.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝDuring this, one of the most sentimental photos during the most dominant run I had ever seen at the time was published in a popular BJJ magazine. In a ridiculous purple belt adult lightweight division - 5 matches, 5 submissions, all within 2 hrs in a single elimination format. ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝYes, it was all worth it.

Congratulations to our newest grey/white belt Lily! Itโ€™s been selfishly fulfilling to watch her improve her tournament placings each time, finally achieving her first double gold last month. On top of being a relentless competitor, she very well might be the sweetest kid.

has moved their Syracuse tournament from June 6 to August 29 without warning.

As head coach, I can no longer justify dedicating weeks of preparation for dozens of athletes just to be moved in one weekโ€™s notice, not to mention juggling my busy schedule around. I encourage all my athletes and parents who signed up for this event to demand their money back. I will not be attending the August event.

We will hold our regularly scheduled nogi open mat on June 6.

We will be sharing techniques from our coaches on a consistent basis, and obviously only ones that actually work. First up is Coach with a dump which is extremely powerful in the gi. ๐Ÿฅ‹

The biggest thank you to for sharing his technique with us. A couple months back, he stopped by to train and hit some really cool stuff. One thing led to another, and tonight he stopped by to break it all down for us. Needless to say, you grew on everyone quickly Trey.

I owe a heartfelt thank you to our team as well for showing up and packing the mats at capacity. In almost 4 years of being open, this is only our third seminar ever as I am extremely picky about who I bring in. Iโ€™m not sure if everyone knows this, but some academies are obligated to bring association professors into their academy __ times per year at __ $USD. I am lucky enough to be in a rare position where I do what I want and donโ€™t do what I donโ€™t want, and I for sure know I am lucky to have each of you as well. Thank you all, it means a lot to me.
