Have a great holiday season.

12/15/2019

It has been another great season of sailing with the Maritime Bay Model Sailing Club AMYA #357. The membership of the club has increased this year. We now have 8 members. A small group of the members attended the Manitowoc Farmers market each Saturday morning (9:00 to Noon) (May - October) on the Manitowoc River across from the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. We usually had at least three of us sailing there with extra boats available for use by those interested in trying out this great pastime. This helps promote the club's activities with the capability of offering a sailing opportunity to guests walking by the Farmer's Market.

On Tuesdays (3:30 pm), during the summer, we sail at the north end of the Manitowoc Marina Mooring area next to the Blue Rail walk to the lighthouse. We have a race course set up on the water there which accommodates most wind directions. We had lots of racing there this past summer and most of them resulted in close finishes. At times we had as many as eight boats sailing including visitors from other clubs in Wisconsin. The sailing skills of the sailors continued to improve this year. The race marks were removed in early November this year just in time. Gulls were walking on the ice surface the next week. The marks will go in again next spring after the ice is out on the mooring area at the Manitowoc Marina. We are still working with the the City of Manitowoc and the Marina management to allow for improved access to the water surface in the mooring area.

We have an emaii list for communicating the location and time for scheduled sailing and racing events. Send your email address via facebook pm or email to [email protected] and you will be added to our email list and sent an email before each sailing event.

We started two years ago with three members and now have eight with more showing some interest. We are looking forward to next year. Thanks to all of you for coming out and sailing your RC Soling One Meters, EC 12s, IOMs, Marbleheads and other RC model sailboats this summer.
Have a great holiday season and winter, and yes stay warm and dry. At present the schedule for next year will be the same. Follow us on Facebook or send me your email address for inclusion on our list.

Ladies and gentlemen: The water is again liquid in most places here on the lake shore. I am sure many of you are chomping at the bit to put your mdel boat into the water and working out your rusty thumbs. The Manitowoc River, The East Twin Rivers are free of ice as of today. The Manitowoc Marina mooring area still had some ice with gulls standing on it as of April 4. When the ice leaves the marina I will set out our racing course for use by those interested. The first day without rain predicted over the next week is Tuesday (April 9). I plan on being there at about 3:00 pm to practice here in Wisconsin for the first time this year. The weather is predicted to be cool and wind about 11 mph from the north. In other words dress warm if you plan on joining me. I will send out a last minute note for location of Manitowoc or Two Rivers. It will depend on the ice conditions in Manitowoc Marina.

Happy Thanksgiving, and Stay Warm.

It has been a great season of sailing with the Maritime Bay Model Sailing Club AMYA #357. We sailed most Saturday mornings (9:00 to Noon) on the Manitowoc River next to the Manitowoc Farmers Market across from the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. We usually had at least three of us sailing there with extra boats available for use by those interested in trying out this great pastime.

On Tuesdays (4pm), during the summer, we moved to the north end of the Manitowoc Marina Mooring area next to the Blue Rail walk to the lighthouse. We have a semi permanent course set up on the water there which accommodates most wind directions. We had lots of racing there this summer and most of them resulted in close finishes. At times we had as many as eight boats sailing including visitors from other clubs in Wisconsin. The sailing skills of the sailors improved a lot this summer due to the low key racing. The marks were removed this past week October 23, when ice started appearing on the birdbaths. It is tough paddling a kayak on a frozen water surface. The marks will go in again next spring after the ice is out on the mooring area at the Manitowoc Marina. Thanks must go out to the City of Manitowoc again for placing a load of gravel at the Northwest corner of the mooring area retaining wall forming a ramp giving access to the water surface without having to scramble over the rocks to gain access to the water. This was all part of a project the city was doing to accommodate the storm water runoff in the are.

Welcome to the MBMSC page. We have had three new members joining with Soling One Meters in tow. Another potential member is looking at used S1Ms for acquisition.

This week end is Sub Fest at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. We will be at the Farmers' Market across the river sailing RC model boats. Two Soling One Meters and a Marblehead can be be tried by visitors. I will be sailing the Marblehead in the American Marblehead National Championship Regatta In Vernon Hills on July 27 and 28 with a number of classic designs from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. This should be fun.
