🐴THE HORSES OF LITTLE BROOK🐴

MY CHARLIE ZIPS
Barn name CHARLIE
Age 7
Appaloosa

When Kari Zimmermann was 12, a friend told her about Little Brook and she started taking lessons on Gunner, Ace, and eventually Hog (yes we had a horse named Hog😄) About a year later, after scheming how she could have her own horse, we helped her by making a deal that she could work off her board (her parents said she needed to come up with the purchase money and pay for board if she wanted a horse). She found a mare named Callie and became a permanent fixture at Little Brook 😃
Horses got put on the back burner for awhile and forward through college, marriage, work and two kids and the horse bug returned and Kari was hanging around the barn again and looking for a horse she could call her own. Enter Charlie!!!
Charlie came from Edwardsburg Michigan. The lady that owned him retired and wanted to be able to travel more so she decided to sell.
Kari was on her lunch and scrolling the net looking for horses and saw a post on him for sale. She thought he looked perfect and quickly called Kelly to get her thoughts. Kelly gave a big yes and Kari got the ball rolling and contacted the seller. Within 30 minutes of his ad being posted there was already a ton of interest so Kari asked the owner to give her the chance to see him first and she agreed! That meant taking off of work the next day to make a 6 hour drive with Kelly to check him out. They knew he was the right guy when they met him and on their drive home the girls contacted Charlies owner to say he was sold!
He was originally bred by David and Bobbie Best from Best Farms in Michigan. He’s out of I’m with Charlie- who is a full sister to Colored by Charlie and is sired by Impulsive Invitation so very well bred indeed!!
Kari has shown him locally with much success and are working hard toward her goal of showing at Appaloosa Nationals in 2021. We are so happy to have Kari and her family part of our Little Brook family.
Most of us have a “dream” horse.... Charlie is hers😍

PACO
WHO HASNT MET PACO!!
When our first grandson Kollin Fischer was four and showing an interest in the horses Dave and I new we needed a pony around here. Our kids grew up with many good ponies to ride and play with. They are invaluable in letting the kids “do their own thing” without getting hurt bad. A few broken bones, but it was always from goofing around too much!! Boy could I tell pony stories!!
Anyway, Dave was a farrier at that time and ran across Paco at Doug and Charmain Frisch’s in Whitelaw. They thought he was 10 so if I do the math right, Kollins 23, so Paco is 29. Dave took Kollin to pick him up and the pacos Little Brook journey began. He’s never gone to a horse show although he been groomed to go more times than you can imagine. He been trail riding out in Flasher, North Dakota when Kollin was too young to ride a big horse safely and wanted to go to Ivan Gandruds ranch so Paco came along so he could ride with us. He was to little for the cattle drive but he did get to ride some great land taught Kollin how to stay on a horse at a young age. Pacos a little bigger than a miniature so we have always had fun finding tack that fits and you can get tight enough to stay on. But the kids do learn to ride ba****ck sooner than later. He’s been ridden by 7 of our grandkids and isn’t done yet but it won’t take long and Keaton will be playing with him He’s the best thing ever and every one of the kids know he’s theirs to play with when they come here. Landon, Clayton and Ayden spend hours brushing and leading each other around. He’s not as willing to go very fast anymore and that works out perfect now that he’s hanging out with Maezey and Carter.
The young girls at the barn always take Time to brush him and play my little pony with all the braids and he loves every minute of it. Occasionally he has sparkly hoofs for days. As a lot of older ponies do, he has Cushing’s disease and grows a very long hair coat so twice a year we body clip him to keep him comfortable and make it easier to keep him clean. He definitely is a very special pony🥰 Got carried away with pictures😊

🐴THE HORSES OF LITTLE BROOK🐴

ONE HOT ASSET

CHI CHI (named after a cocktail Cheri Greves was drinking the day Chi Chi was born😊)
Appaloosa

Meet Chi Chi! She’s owned and loved by Christina Hornak and her mom Vickie. In 2011, Christina longed to have another horse. One that she could be more competitive on and be able to show on a national and world show level. After some searching a trip was made to Indiana to Kenny Greves farm to look at one of his daughter, Cheri’s horses. Well, Christina fell in love, and a few hours later we were on our way home with Chi Chi in the trailer. From that day Chi Chi proved how talented she was and her and Christina became quite a team.
Day after day and hour after hour they practiced faithfully with one goal in mind and that was to be a National Champion. Most don’t realize the hours put into training to win at this level. Well, all their hard work paid off and in 2012 they were National Champions in Novice Western Horsemanship, Reserve in the Novice Hunt Seat Equitation and third in the Novice Non Pro Showmanship and also a top 10 in the hunter under saddle. The icing on the cake at that show was them winning the Reserve High Point Novice Non Pro!! THAT WAS FUN! (especially for me as a coach!)
2013 they won the Novice NonPro Huntseat Equitation at Appaloosa Nationals. These were just highlights of their career together! I don’t even remember all of the high points or club awards they have won over the years!
Chi Chi is now semi retired and being loved on by Camryn Zimmerman. She is teaching her how to become a great horse person and loves all the attention she gets from Camryn especially their grooming time after lessons. Horses like ChiChi are so special and I know she has made and keeps on making a lot of people happy including me. If you ever see a horse at our barn with her tongue sticking out to one side...it’s that goofy Chi Chi💕

SONNYS PEAVY
Barn Name INDY
APPALOOSA
Age SOON TO BE 22

MEET INDY!! This could be a long one as Indy and I have an 20 year relationship!! He has been loved all those 20 years by Sara (Schultz) Maske. She bought him from Crystal Pitkin way back when Crystal was living in Green Bay and Indy was a coming 2. Sara and Indy have had so much success in the show ring over the years that the list would be way more than my fingers want to type. I have helped them at different times in their career but really formed a great relationship with them when Sara’s goal was to show at Nationals. She had a great show even though Indy got alittle stage fright in the ba****ck horsemanship( its a really big coliseum and pretty scary by yourself especially when your rider has a nervous quiver going on!) There isn’t much Sara hasn’t tried with Indy over the years for instance a couple years ago Sara and her cousin Carolyn Likas decided to ski behind Indy or Skijoring. He never even questioned whether or not he was going to pull Carolyn they just did it! And that’s how he is! The go to guy! I’ve been leasing him now for a few years to help him have a part time job now that he’s retired from showing and no matter if there’s a rider that needs a confidence booster or someone who has never ridden before Indy’s the guy for the job. The kids argue whose going to ride Indy when we have group lessons or “Shann Camp”. We did do a part lease and took him out of retirement for a bunch of shows so McKendra Mecca could get her feet wet showing. Indy helped her earn many awards in walk/trot western pleasure, horsemanship and showmanship and gain the confidence to get her own horse last fall. I will say that when I want to take a quick ride around the farm I jump on Indy! Sara has a young horse,Ivan, to work with now but she still visits frequently to share a Mt Dew with him. Yes he loves Mt Dew!!
I am so lucky to be able to have him in our barn but the best part is that he and Sara Maske are part of our Little Brook family🥰

DAY 5

🐴THE HORSES OF LITTLE BROOK🐴

CHOCOLATE N JACK
Barn name JACKSON
APPALOOSA

Meet Jackson!!
While down at Appaloosa World Show 2017 we were looking for a new horse for Natalie Weyers and Chocolate n Jack came home with us.
Jackson had earned 3 Youth World titles and a Res World title in Green Trail that year. He’s such a versatile horse that has points in western pleasure, horsemanship, hunter under saddle, equitation, showmanship, trail, saddle seat and saddle seat equitation. You name it he can do it and the busier you keep him the better he is. With only a short time to get to know him, Natalie and Kelly showed him to many awards in 2018 and 2019. He kind of comes across like a grumpy old man but it’s more of him being bored. He’s actually a big flirt with the girls around here and typically looking for some kind of mischief to get into!
Natalie is a Non Pro this year and will be competing against her mom Brenda!
Our youth are growing up!!
Glad they are still riding😊

Day 4

🐴THE HORSES OF LITTLE BROOK🐴

IM ON FIRE
Barn name CALEB
APPALOOSA
Age 5

Meet Caleb or Houdini as his owner Missy Anderson of Oshkosh calls him now and then. We met Missy when she was a youth way, way back when, and her parents came to us for some training and she’s been part of our family ever since. Fast forward a lifetime and Missy realized she needed a horse again and went in search. So I get a text one day.... I bought a horse. WHAT!!! I thought she was kidding. She found a Bay/blanketed weanling c**t in Alberta, Canada by Laurie Knox. Caleb came to live at Little Brook as soon as all the paper work was final. Missy worked with him endlessly teaching him all of the normal horse baby stuff. Needless to say he’s GREAT at all of it. He was slow to mature so she waited to get him started and last spring sent him to Russell Batista for a few months. Russ did a great job with him and now Missy is continuing his training under saddle and is doing wonderful! I may have not told her this, but I am VERY PROUD of her accomplishments with Caleb and that with the exception of time by Russ she has trained Caleb by herself💕
Caleb can be quite the goofball and has earned his name Houdini by being able to get out of his blankets without wrecking them(most of the time) and I have watched him do it!! Never wrecks the leg straps!! Our Little Brook family (and me) wouldn’t be the same without Missy and Caleb in our lives. Can’t wait to ride more together this summer!!🥰

Day 3

🐴THE HORSES OF LITTLE BROOK🐴

IMPASSABLE MISSION
Barn name HUEY
Age 10
APPALOOSA

Meet Huey!! He is owned by Karen Klinzing of Manitowoc. Karen purchased him from Gale Gores from northwestern WI in 2015. We had seen Huey at some of the Appaloosa shows being shown by the Gores family and knew he would make a good fit for Karen.
Karen and Huey teamed up and have done outstanding together earning a Top 10 in the Nation in 2017 in W/T Non Pro western pleasure. They’ve also won numerous other awards and do very well in showmanship.
Huey is one of those quiet guys that never says much, but is very definite about his opinions on things. He knows his job well and can always be counted on to perform his best.
Back issues sidelined Karen but she’s been getting back in the saddle and riding again and is looking forward to showing again. Hopefully her twin sister, Kathy, will be tagging along and cheering her on. Can’t wait to see this team back at the shows with Team Little Brook!!
