Manistee Area Leadership Program

Manistee Area Leadership Program A Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce program. The 2022/2023 Leadership Cohort has selected water safety as their theme for this year’s community project.

This nine-month program is designed to enhance the skills of current leaders or develop future leaders in our community, utilizing their talents and passions to make a positive impact in the Manistee area. Each year the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program participants choose a community development event or project to complete. For the 2023 Big Day of Serving, the Leadership Cohor

t will be building and installing Life Vest Loaner Stations at various waterfront locations around Manistee County. These life vest loaner stations will be permanent structures containing varying sizes of life vests from infant to adult that the public can borrow for free while enjoying water activities. The goal of the project is to help educate the community on water safety while helping to make water recreation safe and accessible for all.

The 2025/2026 Manistee Area Leadership Program team embarked on a visit to the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Government Center to participate in Tribal Day!

Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by Tribal Manager William Willis and Director of Commerce Jim Wabindato. The day began with engaging presentations from Jessica Steinberg and Corey Wells, who shared insights on tribal history and governance. On March 5th, the Manistee Area Leadership Program had the opportunity to travel to Lansing, where we joined the Cadillac Leadership Program for a day of learning and exploration at the Michigan Capitol and Heritage Hall.

We had the privilege of hearing from an outstanding lineup of speakers, including Representative VandeWall, Stacie Bytwork (Acuitas), Henry Wolfe (Rural Office of Prosperity), and Terri Langley (Michigan Executive Director of Disability Network). Their insights and expertise provided valuable perspectives on government, advocacy, and community engagement.

A special thank you to the Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce for including us on this trip and for all their time and effort in coordinating the day.

Thank you to our sponsors— Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital, Filer Credit Union, West Shore Community College, Republic Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan — for their support of the Manistee Area Leadership Program!
