Choosing the best archery gear for beginners starts with a bow you can draw comfortably. Our team recommends starting with Lite limbs, which range from 30-50 pounds, so you can focus on learning your form. The right fit matters. What draw weight are you considering for your first bow?

Choosing beginner archery equipment? Starting with limbs two steps lighter than you think you need can make early practice feel less like a strength test. When you measure draw length, that familiar arms-out stretch is a useful starting point. Have a helper measure fingertip to fingertip with a tape, then divide the wingspan in inches by 2.5. A 70-inch wingspan estimates a 28-inch draw length. Treat it as a baseline, since body proportions can shift the fit. What wingspan measurement are you starting with?

Before pre-season practice, wax bowstring and check for fuzzy patches before they catch you by surprise at the range.

A quick inspection can reveal dryness and wear early. If you spot fuzz, clean the string and apply archery-specific wax, working it into the strands with friction. What part of your string do you check first?
