In winter, pushing the same pace we expect from ourselves in warmer, lighter seasons often leads to burnout. This is especially true for working parents carrying a lot at once.
Sometimes the most sustainable choice is not to push harder, but to move differently. Slower. More intentionally. With less pressure.

This winter stretch in NYC has been long and heavy. Even when it’s exactly what the season is supposed to be, the cold and darkness can still wear you down.

Watching Alex play in the snow reminded me that this isn’t the time to expect peak energy or big momentum. It’s a season for adjusting expectations, conserving energy, and finding small moments that help you stay grounded.

In my work with working moms, I see this often. When the season is demanding, the work is not to push harder, but to adapt more kindly.

A chilly morning run that took forever to get out the door, felt slow the whole time, and still ended up being exactly what I needed.

It was a good reminder that “done” really is better than “perfect.”
Most days, momentum comes from simply starting, even when the start feels messy.

Running with a stroller isn’t easy… but the views, the air, the colors, and having Alex with me make it worth it. 🍁 Small moments like this are where I find my energy again.
