Surfside Volleyball Club, Inc. is devoted to teaching proper volleyball technique, motivating players to reach their highest potential, and making sure they have fun while doing it. Our talented teams have consistently competed in the top of their age groups at both a local and national level. Former Surfside Girls have gone to to receive scholarships and compete at the collegiate level at schools

such as: USC, University of Virginia, Hawaii, UCLA, Pepperdine, Davidson, Harvard, Colgate, Cal Baptist, Biola, and numerous others.

Tryouts are coming—and now is the time to get in the gym, sharpen your skills, and compete!

Throughout August, we’re offering position-specific training so athletes can focus on the areas of their game they want to improve most:

All Skills + Competition — Aug. 9, 17, 26 & 30
Setting — Aug. 10, 19 & 23
Serve Receive — Aug. 10, 19 & 23
Hitting — Aug. 12, 16 & 24
Defense — Aug. 12, 16 & 24

11/12s: 5:30–7:00 PM

LYANNA GARCIA | 16 SURF 🌊🏐

A Carson native, Coach Lyanna brings high-level playing experience, a championship coaching résumé, and a genuine passion for helping athletes become the best versions of themselves.

Lyanna played nine years of club volleyball with Mizuno Long Beach and Seal Beach and was a four-year varsity athlete at Bishop Montgomery High School. In 2017, she helped Mizuno Long Beach capture a USAV gold medal before attending Long Beach State University.

She has built an impressive coaching career across both the club and high school levels, spending seven years with Mizuno Long Beach and SC Rockstar, three years with Team Rockstar, and five years coaching within the boys’ and girls’ volleyball programs at Los Alamitos High School.

Her coaching accomplishments include:

🥈 13U Silver Medalist — Team Rockstar, 2023
🥇 14U National Champion — Team Rockstar, 2024
🥉 15U Bronze Medalist — USAV Girls Junior National Championship, 2025

Lyanna coaches because she wants young athletes to grow, develop, and fall in love with volleyball the same way she did. Her goal is to support and challenge every player while helping them build confidence, character, and a strong foundation both on and off the court.

She is excited to begin a new volleyball journey at Surfside, connect with our athletes and families, and help build an incredible culture!

Introducing your Surfside Legends…

AUGUST RASKIE | 15 LEGENDS 🌊

August Raskie brings elite collegiate and professional playing experience to Surfside Volleyball Club. She competed for Colorado Juniors and Front Range Volleyball Club before becoming an All-American at the University of Oregon.

August continued her career professionally, playing in France’s A1 league for two seasons, Italy’s A1 league for two seasons, and Major League Volleyball for three seasons. Her accomplishments include being named MVP of the French Cup and MVP of the Global World Challenge.

She coaches because volleyball taught her countless lessons, and she enjoys being of service to athletes who want to learn, improve, and challenge themselves.

TOMMY CHAFFINS | 16 LEGENDS 🌊

Few coaches bring the championship experience, volleyball knowledge, and proven leadership that Tommy Chaffins brings to Surfside.

A longtime head coach at Redondo Union High School, Tommy is a multi-time CIF and State Championship coach and a former PrepVolleyball National Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, he has helped develop high-level athletes, build championship-caliber teams, and create cultures rooted in accountability, trust, and competing for one another.

Tommy is a direct and intentional coach who challenges athletes to raise their standards while helping them understand what it takes to succeed as part of a team. His focus extends beyond individual skill development to communication, cohesion, work ethic, and the habits required to compete at the highest level.

At Surfside, Tommy brings invaluable experience and a passion for helping athletes improve, build confidence, and become better teammates.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have Coach Tommy helping shape the next generation of Surfside athletes! 💙

Ava Hurry brings 13 years of playing experience and three seasons of coaching experience to Surfside Volleyball Club. She was a four-year varsity player and two-year captain in high school, earning Player of the Year, two varsity MVP awards, and two All-Tournament Team selections.
