Margaret's Mission was started in 2012 to raise money for experimental treatment in Arizona. They left for treatment on this day 13 years ago. This photo was taken the night before they left!

Quick update on ol' four eyes 🤓

Yesterday we had lunch all together after another successful doctor check-up! Margaret keeps improving and thriving after her transplant and we couldn't be happier.

☀️ She is working hard at both the restaurant and stepped back to subbing only as a registered dental hygienist. She loves the flexibility (and also time to rest) and being able to help multiple offices out in a pinch.

☀️ She has connected with her donor and they have so much in common! It's pretty neat.

👎 Her hair is growing like a w**d. Unfortunately not red. All those ginger jokes I had ready. Sigh.

👎 Apparently her attitude is just here to stay. I asked.

☀️ Her and her husband are gearing up for a big trip and we're all very excited for them! It's exciting to be able to travel so far from doctors for the first time in your adult life.

✨Overdue Health Update✨

Forgive me friends, it's been a minute. The summer is zooming by and we're rapidly approaching Margaret's 36th (!!!) birthday 👏 I'm happy to announce, in my most professional opinion, this is the best she has looked for a very long time. Now please know, I do not hand compliments out to her often. So that is worth its weight in gold.

Margaret is slowly creeping back into everyday life but not quite back to work yet. While she is feeling great, her blood work is kind of wonky (scientific term, please try to keep up) and her counts are all over the board. She did have a bone marrow biopsy to rule out cancer and it thankfully came back negative. Her scans remain clear as well! They aren't 100% sure what's causing the rollercoaster counts but they're keeping a close eye on it.

As discussed in the posts earlier this year, Margaret had the possibility of taking on traits like hair color from her donor. I'm disheartened to share with you, as much as I was hoping to call her Carrot Top for the rest of our days -- her hair is insanely dark and curly like when she was a kid. So while I can't use all the ginger jokes I prepared, our wild-mop-Tarzan-girl is back and here to stay.

Last but surely not least is the introduction of the new member of our wolf pack!! W***y Dexter!! Margaret and Bryant lost their sweet, bestest boy Boomer a handful of days before she went into the hospital at the end of last year. After the hospital, things were just too quiet and they were decided to scoop up a new pup in need from a local rescue. Everyone is adjusting well. He's best friends with my Rosie and Sydney is thrilled that they entertain each other while she gets all the pets. He loves playing ball, going for car rides and keeping a very close eye on his Mama.

🗣️ HEALTH UPDATE

Margaret has passed the 100 day mark since her transplant ✨ crowd goes wild ✨ She is doing amazing. She is getting back to being more like herself; strong, full of attitude and energy. Her blood work continues to trend in the right direction. Right now we're watching closely her STRs which are short tandem repeated DNA sequences. The goal is 100% but there is no timeline for it. Last checked she was 88% and we're waiting for those new numbers to come in. What this means in Sarah-science-class is how much donor is in her system. Margaret's donor is 26 years old so my sister likes to say she is 88% in her twenties. Hmm, no. 🙄😆
