Leo and I had our first ride back! It’s been over 6 months since he was last ridden and he was excellent. Our groundwork start-up really paid off! Leo did everything I asked and we even did a bit of trot. We ended our ride following a little bridle path around the property. 😊❤️🐎

Pov: You’re a travel trainer.

Weekends are always the busiest at OET with tack to clean, horses to work, and Leo to spoil. On weekdays, you can catch me out there after dark making the most of it. I’m loving the days slowly getting longer and the weather warmer!

QOTD: What’s your favorite barn routine? Mine is spending time grooming, stretching, and grazing Leo.

A little Leo update ❤️

In early January, Leo experienced a serious colic episode that required surgical intervention to save his life. To say it brought sudden change would be an understatement.

Since then, his days have focused on careful rehab, monitoring, hand-walking, stretching, and giving his body the time it needs to heal. He’s now off stall rest and enjoying small turnout, which has been a big milestone.

I’m incredibly grateful to the veterinary teams at Colts Neck Equine Associates and Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center, and to everyone who has checked in along the way.

This horse has a special heart, and I’m hopeful for what lies ahead as we continue the journey back toward work and the future we have planned.

Now that the snow is starting to melt and we’re seeing the ground again, a lot of us are thinking about getting horses back into work.

Here are a few things can make that transition easier:

🐎 A groundwork refresher first can help bring the focus back
🐎 Winter fluff and downtime can change saddle fit and it's worth a check
🐎 Take it easy! Most of us (horses and riders) aren’t in mid-season shape yet
🐎 Be mindful of footing while things thaw

Taking it slow now makes for a much smoother spring!

Hello all! I hope everyone is staying warm this winter.

As Ocean Equine Training continues to grow and evolve, I’m excited to officially transition the program toward travel training and travel lessons as its primary focus.

With this shift, on-site lessons have concluded, and the lesson horse program is also coming to a close. All current students have already been contacted directly; this post serves as the final public update. If you’ve been on a break and have questions about next steps, you’re always welcome to reach out.

As part of this transition, the lesson horses will be moving on to their next homes. I’m incredibly grateful to the horses and clients who were part of this chapter and appreciate everyone’s continued support as OET moves forward in this next phase.

A quick note regarding the $25 off first lesson vouchers from the barn’s Christmas event: these were promotional extras for discounted lessons.
Everyone who attended received the pony rides/petting zoo experience they purchased, and I hope you enjoyed it! As my on-site beginner lessons wind down through the end of January, these vouchers are no longer redeemable. If you’d like to get your lesson in, reach out ASAP!
