You don’t realize how loud life is… until it isn’t.

At Hickory Cabins, the noise fades into something better—wind in the trees, birds overhead, and that deep, steady quiet you can actually feel. 🌿

But here’s what makes it different…

Right outside your cabin sits Wolf K**b Disc Golf Course—a true wooded, elevation-driven course built for players who love shaping lines and thinking through every shot. It’s not just a place to stay… it’s a place to play, explore, and get completely immersed in the landscape.

Start your morning with coffee on the porch. Spend the day hiking the hills or throwing through the trees. End it by the fire under a sky full of stars.

Nature. Challenge. Escape—all in one place.

🌲 Come stay. Come play. Come slow it all down.

Green River Ferry Reopens in Mammoth Cave National Park

Ferry service resumes after major repairs to flood-damaged infrastructure

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – The Green River Ferry in Mammoth Cave National Park will reopen March 5 and resume daily operations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST. Ferry service was suspended while the park repaired navigational cables and support towers that were damaged during a flood event in spring 2025.

Ferry system replacements included:
two-1,000-foot navigational cables that guide the ferry across the river
four 20-foot-tall towers which hold the navigational cables in place (some were replaced, some were stabilized)
15.5-ton concrete anchor that was damaged and dislodged from the riverbank during the flood

While drydocked, the ferry was sandblasted and repainted and received a new generator and engine. The vessel also received its United States Coast Guard inspection and certification which is required every five years.

Ferry operations are subject to water levels on the Green River and may be affected by high or low water. Learn more about navigating in and around Mammoth Cave National Park on the Directions and Transportation webpage.

We have completed clearing what John has marked on hole 18. The only thing left to do on 18,that John had requested before coming back, is to complete the pond we had previously started. This will require renting equipment we have been holding off on.

You can see 18 tee area and the lane to the first landing zone while walking from 8 basket to 9 tee. The photo shows how It currently looks. When John comes back he will widen the lane to what he has planned it to look like. We will not take out more than he has marked!

It was thick brush at the bottom of the hill and it took a lot of time and work to get to look like this.

We have completed clearing and removal of all trees that John Houck has marked to be removed on hole 17. This is a video of what hole 17 currently looks like from the basket to the landing zone at the bottom of Wolf K**b. The hole is not complete, John will need to come back out to see what additional work will need to be done. My previous post shows what the hole looks like from the landing zone to the basket. This hole is a par 4, once a shot is placed at the landing zone you have a view of the basket on top of the k**b. The next time you play Wolf K**b take a look at Mammoth Cave hole 17 to see one of the many unique holes being developed for this new course.

We will now start work on hole 16!

It’s been a while since we have had an update on the progress of Mammoth Cave DGC. John is currently busy marking holes 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18! 10 has been cleared and more progress has been done on the longest hole ,11. Hole 11 will be 1,100’ or more through the woods ending on the next road over. A bridge will need to be constructed for access to the basket area. Until then, we will be driving around to Lincoln School Road to work on 11 basket .
Last year, about 30’-40’ (having trouble remembering) of stairs was built on the back side of Wolf K**b to allow for easy access to 17 basket while playing that hole.

Hole 10 will be par 3
Hole 11 will be par 5
Holes 12 and 13 will be par 3
Holes 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 will be par 4

This 11,000’ all woods course is very time consuming, please be patient with us! Richard and I are dedicated to getting Mammoth Cave DGC completed.
