Congratulations to each student as Shihan has had his last promotion test. This was a celebration of sorts. Most of the students in this picture has been there from 35 years to 50 years.
Belts awarded, Five 2nd degree, five 3rd degree, two 4th decree and two fifth degrees. Shihan made sure that the hard training resulted in great comradery, esprit de corp and discipline with a great deal of humbleness and respect. Thank you Shihan for a life time of service.

Sensai Foster in his late 90's trained up until a few weeks ago. He is on the far left. He was called home to the Great Dojo in the sky. Now he knows all things. We will miss our Sensai and our Tomodachi. Osu!

I have practiced Karate for 36 years. Judo for 2, Tomiki Aikido for 10 and Okinawa Kobudo for 3. Of all the martial arts, I think karate was the most Zen like. Nothing clears the mind like 1,2 kick 1,2 for 20 minutes each for front kick, round house kick etc. Your next breath is the only thing you're thinking about. There were times where I thought "My kingdom for an ibuki!!!". Twice in 30 years I went into a deep state of meditation automatically right after a heavy fight night. It was definitely a zen state and I felt one with all things. I can't explain it but it was a total absence of the feeling of "I". That is the power of heavy training and it's possibilities.

It is said that you really learn Karate after 50. Now I know why. I don't know anyone that have practiced the martial arts for 30 or 40 years that doesn't have physical issues which causes pain. The stamina is gone, the quickness has waned and all you are left with is technique which you finally start to realize was the most important factor after all. Kumite as Brown Belt circa 1988
