Ed's Eco Adventures

Ed's Eco Adventures Discovering Florida on water, over 45 years exploring and there is always something new! I have adventures and write about them. Want to go on one? Surfing?

How about a trip on a kayak or paddleboard through the chain of lakes in Winter Park, FL? Fishing on a paddleboard? Kayaking to see manatees as Blue Springs? There are many really cool spots within 2 hours of Central Florida. I know that when I go on trips, a valuable thing to have is a local that can show you where to go...can't get more local than a Orlando-born, Florida native!

One photo is all it takes to bring back a flood of memories. We rented this cool old house on a canal down in Bokeelia, with kayaking and fishing in mind. A quick getaway just for fun, and the one thing we never expected was that the hit of the trip was the owner that just kept popping up whenever she felt like it. Pam stood guarding the doorway, but if Ms. Heron thought we had any fish, she was coming inside for sure. The sad part was after a few days she realized that we were not very good at the "keeping the fish" part of fishing and stopped coming by so much. I'd go back there just to see is she is still around!

Camping with the boys in Tomoka. Another great trip in the books. Some biking and kayaking and lots of eating and sitting around the campfire…we started this tradition here with our Dad and we are still carrying torch for having way more gear than is necessary….Paul is still the minimalist…and he brought two tents with extra poles…I’m just saying

Once I realized that I have not yet got back the balance I needed to ride my smaller board in storm waves...I sat back an enjoyed the show while Sam tore it up. Interesting to me was that I can still remember the day the girls would all be on the beach sitting next to their boards...not anymore. No more bikinis and hanging 10 on longboards...they are shredding with the boys big time. One of these days it will be Sam's daughter in the photos...

For a hot month there in April-March, I was wondering if I’d ever ride a bike again…and yet, Paul and I found we can still ride and have fun! Steve had moved to Texas, so it’s going to be a big deal when all 3 of us meet to ride again..today, we had Princess Place all to ourselves…and some very hungry mosquitos and horseflies. There was a helicopter spraying overhead and lots of water on the trail. The difference? We are both grateful to be on this planet still…and able to have some fun…

Wow...it was kind of like Covid-19, my memory of the hospital stay is fading fast, but I do get little flashbacks here and there. I need to write about the staff before I lose those memories. First off, when people speak of diversity, I usually think they mean one of every kind of ethnic group and sexual orientation. In this case, diversity meant to me, whoever was hiring, was after people that had some kind of pizazz or character trait that made them stand out. That was why I kept thinking I was on some kind of Wizard of Oz trip and wondering which one of the staff only needed a heart or a brain while we traveled down the recovery road.
