• The Tiger: It symbolizes strength, courage, and power, but also calmness and control. The tiger represents the idea that true strength should be restrained you only use your power when absolutely necessary.

• The Circle: Sometimes the tiger is inside a circle. The circle stands for perfection, continuity and the endless journey of mastering karate. It reminds practitioners that learning is a lifelong process.

• The Story Behind It:
The tiger design was originally drawn by a Japanese artist named Hoan Kosugi, a friend of Gichin Funakoshi (the founder of Shotokan). They chose a tiger because Funakoshi’s pen name was Shoto, which means “pine waves” the sound of wind blowing through pine trees, symbolizing nature and peace. The tiger, tied to the wilderness and nature, fits that vibe.
