“And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.” -Acts 18:23

Are you an encourager or a discourager? Paul took time to go back and visit the places where he had established churches. Why? He wanted to encourage or strengthen them. Being a true Christian is no easy task. Paul knew that if anyone did. He would often go back and visit people so that he could lift them up and help them continue to walk in the faith. Is that something we do? Do we encourage others to keep on or discourage them? Remember, some Christians are weary and ready to give up. Be an encourager. Strengthen other believers. Lift them up and help them keep going. God Bless from The Batter’s Box!

“Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.”
-Acts 16:29-34

Paul and Silas have been in prison. They were praying and singing praises to the Lord. All of a sudden there was an earthquake. The prisoners are unshackled. Now what? Run! No. They stay put. They jailor supposed everyone is gone and that he’ll die because of it happening on his watch. Then he hears something. They’re still there! He runs in and well...you see what happens. Not only does this man trust Jesus for salvation, but his whole household is saved! Just think about what might have never happened if Paul and Silas would have been in prison screaming and yelling about being wrongfully accused. How did he know to ask them about salvation? Because they never quit talking about it and showing it in their lives. God Bless from The Batter’s Box!

“And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” -Acts 16:23-25

Would you sing praises in prison? Here we have Paul and Silas who are in prison and haven’t done anything wrong. I can’t imagine what my response would be if I was falsely accused and thrown into prison. These weren’t like our modern prisons. You didn’t watch tv, get an education and learn a trade. These men were in a dark and damp inner prison. They were shackled and chained. For what? Preaching the gospel. More than likely I would be kicking, screaming and crying out as loudly as possible. I’d be pleading my innocence and furious about my situation. However, these men of God prayed and sang praises to God. That’s commitment! Are we there? I pray I could be more like Paul and Silas. God Bless from The Batter’s Box!
