Swim Academy located in Magnolia, Texas. From a young age I have always been passionate about swimming. I started competitively swimming when I was in 5th grade, and continued until I graduated from high school. In addition to swimming, I also played water polo for 4 years during high school and beyond with the Houston Water Polo Club. In 2005, I even earned the opportunity to travel to the Jr. Ol

ympics in California. The water has always planed a big part of my life. I became interest in survival lessons in 2018 when my first child was born and I wanted to keep him safe as a concerned parent around water. Sadly, a few days before my son’s first birthday our family was hit with a tragedy when we were notified my cousin had lost her son to a drowning accident. I saw first hand the pain a parent suffers from the lack of swimming experience, and wanted to personally make a difference. The following summer, I enrolled my son into infant survival lessons. From that day on, I became a big advocate, enrolling my second son in survival skills too. Wanting more families to have the same opportunity as my sons to benefit from these lifesaving swimming skills I became an instructor. With the moral support of my husband, family and friends I was able to fulfil my dream of teaching survival and swim lessons to all ages.

A heartbreaking tragedy in the Huffman area is serving as a reminder of how quickly drowning can happen.

After a 1-year-old was found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool, KPRC 2 spoke with a water safety expert about the steps parents can take to help prevent similar tragedies.

From swim lessons starting as young as 6 months old to the importance of having a dedicated "water watcher," experts say constant supervision remains the most effective way to keep children safe around water.
