Do you know what today is? It’s , and we are excited to feature Kristy Ashmore!

Mrs. Ashmore is a longtime educator of Simpson County School District, where she has been employed for 28 years! Currently, she serves as a first-grade teacher at Simpson Central School, in addition to first-grade chair. She also held the title of chair for many years during her time at Magee Elementary School. A celebrated teacher, Mrs. Ashmore has been twice recognized as Teacher of the Year, once for Simpson Central School in 2018 and another for Magee Elementary in 2008. She was also named Star Teacher in 2011 for Magee. Throughout her career, Mrs. Ashmore has served on numerous committees and has served as a supervising teacher for many student teachers. A graduate of Magee High School and Copiah Lincoln Community College, Mrs. Ashmore holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from The University of Southern Mississippi and a master's degree in education from William Carey University.

Outside of SCSD, she has been as director of Magee's Miss Hospitality pageant for over 20 years, and she is also an active member of Corinth Baptist Church. Mrs. Ashmore is married to Chad, with whom she has two children, Hattie Grace and Jack.

When asked how does she help our students believe, achieve and succeed, she replied: “Each day is a new adventure in first grade, both academically and socially. I try to create an environment in my classroom that encourages learning. School should be fun, and students should feel like they can succeed. I feel it is my responsibility to make my students feel loved and, in turn, to teach them to be kind to others. Each child is special and has unique talents. I try to find those talents and nurture them while at the same time developing their weaknesses. I hope to plant the seeds to make each child a successful citizen.”

Thank you, Mrs. Ashmore, for everything you do to ensure our students “Believe, Achieve, Succeed – Every Day!”
