In response to USRowings recent gender policy change:
Boathouses should be open to ALL rowers, regardless of race, sexual identity, or gender. Regattas should continue to be fully inclusive.
Mendota Rowing Club adamantly opposes the unjust and discriminatory policy changes made by USRowing, which prohibit transgender women from competing in the women’s category. Previously, rowers competing in USRowing sanctioned events were able to row and race in categories that aligned with their true gender identity.
USRowing opted to follow a politically charged mandate from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. This change in policy reverses any progress USRowing had made toward promoting inclusion in the sport.
As a club, we will continue to run practices as usual and will ensure that rowers continue to be recognized by their authentic gender identity. We will continue to speak out and push back to get these policies reversed. We call on other teams to speak out against these changes.
Mendota Rowing Club extends gratitude to for the inspiration for this post.
