Same in boxing. Your body can do more than you think it can!

Most runners have felt it that wall that seems impossible to break through. Your legs ache, your lungs burn, and your mind is screaming at you to stop. But here’s the thing: science shows that when your brain tells you you’re done, you’re often only around 40% finished. That’s right your body has far more energy reserves than your mind gives you credit for.

This isn’t about pushing recklessly or ignoring pain, it’s about understanding your limits and training your mental endurance. Elite athletes reach new PRs not just by running faster or farther, but by learning to harness this hidden reservoir.

Techniques like visualization, focusing on rhythm and breath, and breaking the distance into small, manageable milestones can help you push past that “I can’t” feeling.

Every time you challenge that mental barrier, you teach your mind that your body can handle more. That 5k that felt grueling? You could go farther. That tempo run that left you gasping? You could maintain it longer. It’s a mental game, and the stronger your mind, the stronger your running. Remember: your mind sets the limit long before your body does.

Congrats to Cam!! He won, after coming off a loss at Regional Silver Gloves, against a very tough and good boxer. It was a unanimous decision, even though I personally thought it was a split and it could have gone either way. He did great and it was a fanstastic fight.
Sergio had a great fight as well. He came up short but that young man is gonna be soooo good, don’t sleep on him. He’s so very good.
I am so proud of these two young men, they represent my gym so well and I love their determination in this sport. Their futures are so bright.

Cam and I went to the Regional Silver Gloves tournament. The kid fought his ass off and lost a very close split decision to an opponent with more than double, close to triple his experience.
I’m so proud of this young man, he’s not even technically “open”, but stepped up to represent our state, and the only youngster to represent Madison in specific.
He came up short but he represented so well. This kids future is so bright and I can’t wait to see it. This is a journey and hes walking the path along with so many in my gym. Very proud coach right now.
Next up is Sergio on Thursday in Milwaukee!!!
