🔥 Madera Race Recap 🔥
Another scorcher at Madera Speedway with temperatures reaching 104°, but our team was ready for the challenge.
Friday started on a high note as Matt Erickson jumped in Mason’s car to help fine tune the setup. The changes paid off immediately, with Mason running his fastest laps ever and finishing Friday 3rd on the speed charts in the Junior Late Model division. 💪
Then disaster struck.
On our final run Friday night, the rear end failed. Our incredible crew stayed late into the night, swapping the entire rear end just to get us back on track for Saturday. We made the show, but the car never quite handled the way it did Friday, and with only two practice sessions we couldn’t get it fully dialed in. That left Mason qualifying 8th.
The Junior Late Models were the feature race of the night, racing under the lights. Mason drove a smart, patient race and came into halftime in position to make a run. But when the green flag flew for the final 30 laps, we discovered his race radio wasn’t working, meaning no spotter and no crew chief communication for the entire second half.
Just two laps after the restart, cars tangled in front of him, and Mason threaded the needle to move into 5th. He battled hard the rest of the race, ultimately bringing it home 6th, while turning his fastest laps of the night in the closing stages—all with no radio, no communication, and relying entirely on his instincts.
Not the finish we were hoping for, but another weekend of learning, overcoming adversity, and making progress. Huge thanks to our crew for the late-night thrash and to everyone who continues to support Mason’s racing journey. On to the next one! 🏁👊
