Yesterday, we responded to a 911 emergency call for two missing kayakers in the waters between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island. The kayakers paddled out, grew tired, flipped over their kayaks, and could not get back in.

Luckily USCG Station St. Ignace from U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes had deployed their small boat, which was first on the scene and were able to get the people and their equipment safely onboard.

As the weather continues to warm up, please review this Water Safety Announcement. We want you to enjoy the water while being smart and safe about it!

Our friends from the US Geologic Survey came over to the marina yesterday, from the Cheboygan River. Due to the potential breech of the dam upriver, their crew decided to keep the boats out of harms way. Very happy we could help our neighbors.

Happy Friday everyone. We have been getting some calls about if the fuel dock will be opening in mid April. Currently we are still frozen in with 1-2 feet of ice in the marina basin. Also, the Straits of Mackinac are still pretty well frozen between the lower peninsula and Bois Blanc/ Mackinac Island. With the temperatures still getting well below freezing at night it doesn’t look like we will be opening the fuel dock in the next couple weeks. But as we all know weather in the Straits is pretty unpredictable. So things could change. Feel free to reach out to us if you want any updates on the ice conditions at [email protected] or you can also go to the NOAA site that gives current ice conditions on the Great Lakes.
