At the conclusion of the 2022 summer season, the Midwest Jets will not continue. This comes to a surprise to many after a successful 2021-2022 season of over 100 games played between September and July with a current record of 58-26-6. The Jets placed 1st in the Battle @ Barlow premier division, 2nd in the Salute to Service tournament, and 2nd in the Reach for the Starzz tournament. The Jets will continue throughout the month of July, participating in the Big Red Blast and World Series.
The team‘s manager, Amie Cormell, has an opportunity for her daughters to play summer ball in Arizona. Her husband, Eric Cormell, scouts with the Baltimore Orioles and that position will require a decent amount of time out west. Therefore, Coach Cormell will not be able to continue the Midwest Jets softball program.
Thank you so much to all who have been with the Jets throughout the 2021–22 season. It has been a year to remember. Each and every Jets player has grown and developed tremendously and will prove to be a positive addition to any team they end up on.
Lastly, during the time that the Cormell family is in Ohio, we will be offering on-field training and live play opportunities throughout the year in a program we will be calling “Midwest Varsity Prep”. These workouts will be available to any and all players 14u and up (43’ pitching distance) who are serious about their softball development. The workouts run by Eric and Amie Cormell will include: ground ball/fly ball reps, live base running, live at-bats vs. live pitching, and a high amount of quality game-speed reps. The “Midwest Varsity Prep” weekly sessions will be modeled after instructional ball that you would see at a professional level. These sessions will begin the week of Labor Day on an outdoor field in Macedonia and transition to indoor at the The Dirt (formerly Spano Dome) throughout the winter. More info to come.
Thank you for all of your support in creating the Midwest Jets and making it a successful product. I’m sorry it will not continue, but proud of the obstacles we overcame this year and the strides each and every player made.
Sincerely,
Amie Cormell
