I had confirmed for me in the last hour that the Colorado paddling community has lost a tremendously sweet, upbeat acquaintance of mine.
Cole C is somebody I did not know as closely as I would have liked to. I think he and I shared a taste for shenanigans and mischief meant to put smiles on the faces of others, and I wish I had gotten to play on the river more with him.
I consider myself fortunate to have never dealt with the particular distress that a friend of his has suggested led to the end of his 31 years on this planet -- and not everyone is as lucky as me in that regard.
If you have friends who are feeling the loss of Cole in this life or are going through a few rough days, weeks, or years, consider this your prompt to reach out and let them know they are a necessary and vital thread in the tapestry of our time on this planet together.
If you don't know how your friends past and present are doing, maybe reach out to three you haven't spoken to in a while and check in. Sharing our struggle lightens our burdens.
