We received an Area 7 Coho Slamming FISHTALE Report from Kathy and Nelson (Spud) Goodsell.

It's NONSTOP ripping Coho in the islands recently. We always head away from the crowds in deeper water trying to intercept the schools in the rips on the incoming tides. A good grade of fish including some "teeners".

The bait found in the stomachs has been firecracker herring so we downsized to a mini-ace-high fly for most of the action . In 300-400 feet of water we found most action throughout the day between 80-120 feet on the Scotty's . Fast trolling at 3-4 knots.

It's such a blast to land doubles and even triples when the schools are found !

See you on the water .....

The Coho harvest rolls on for Silver Horde friend and Pro Staff angler Anthony Warren—better known as the “Salish Sea Chef.” Catching premium Coho is just the beginning. What comes next? Sea‑to‑Plate grilled Coho that looks suspiciously like a honey‑glazed masterpiece.

If we nudge him enough, maybe he’ll finally share the recipe.

Drop your comments and let’s see if we can coax it out of him.

Thanks for sharing, Anthony!!! And Good Fishing!!!

If you were involved with this, targeting Salmon when the river is closed to Salmon and the water conditions are extremely low, then you are part of the problem!!!

Bad behavior eventually affects us all, as we all get punished for a few idiots, not respecting the resource and giving Zero F&%$@'s about ethics...

See you October 1st, Grays Harbor Region!!

Satsop River temporarily closes to fishing through Sept. 30
Action: Temporary closure on the Satsop River.

Effective date: Sept. 16–30, 2026.

Species affected: Game fish.

Locations: Satsop River (Grays Harbor County) from the mouth to the Bingham Creek Hatchery dam.

Rules: Closed to fishing.

Reason for action: Disorderly fishing behavior has been observed on the Satsop River during enforcement patrols, with anglers observed targeting salmon before the planned Oct. 1 salmon season opener. Low river flows in the basin are also affecting salmon migration, making fish more vulnerable than normal to angling activity.

While pre-season planning accounted for some incidental mortality of Chinook during the September gamefish season, it did not account for the levels of incidental mortality experienced when anglers are targeting salmon or current low river flows. Because of these conditions, natural origin Chinook require additional conservation measures.

The closure is intended to prevent further impacts to Chinook in September while preserving impacts for the coho-directed fishery scheduled to begin in October.

Additional Information: This closure includes the section from 400 feet below Bingham Creek Hatchery dam to the dam Catch Record Code (CRC) 329A.

Fishery managers encourage anglers to sign up for Fishing Rule Change email notifications and to check for emergency rules on the WDFW website before fishing. Refer to the Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet for current regulations. Download the Fish Washington® mobile app to stay up to date on the go.

Puget Sound Anglers Sno-King Chapter—Edmonds 2026 Coho Derby — is officially in the books.

A huge thank‑you to all the volunteers whose hard work made this event possible. The funds raised will stay local to support efforts that promote and enhance our fishery.

I fished with Team Nimble Whale, and—as always—it was an adventure. We had a last‑minute boat change for the derby, and a few hiccups right out of the gate: the herring was left behind (thankfully the Hook Up Hut saved us with some anchovies), one downrigger malfunctioned, the sonar didn’t make it aboard, and the net was missing. Time to put on the big‑boy pants.

We threw the tackle box at them. Art spun a Ray’s Bait anchovy on the top rod for our first takedown. Ace Hi Flys, Gold Star Hoochies, and Slide Hammer Coho Killers all produced. After boating eight plump Coho, we headed for the weigh‑in.

Special thanks to Aaron “Fabio Whale” Johnson for the photos. The long blond locks may be trimmed, but he still shines. Hiding from the camera—are Captain Art “Max Whale” Olsen, Kurt “Wheat” Ostlund, and yours truly. It was a fantastic day: calm seas, biting fish, and great company.

I’m already looking forward to our next adventure in two weeks at the Everett Coho Derby.

Thank You, my Brothers!!! And Good Fishing!!! Kelly
