So far for back control we’ve been playing a lot of mini games to help understand our grips and hooks as well as when we start to loose the position.

We will start adding in a variety of entries to gain back control next!

As we review 101 Back Control, here are a few points to remember.

Don’t be Myopic!

Back control is great, but holding onto it for too long and ending up in a negative position because you didn’t transition to the next position of control isn’t good.

Control over submission!

Attack the submission to finish the round is the goal but don’t forget you need to focus on control. This plays into not being myopic and ensuring you maintain and upgrade your control as you work for the finish.

We’ll be doing a skills development class tonight to ensure everyone has time to work on the negative bottom position escapes that they need a little more time on.

This video shows what we will be doing coming up next in 101 which is Back Control! This is a good example of a transition from bottom to back.

In case you missed it, was promoted to the rank of Brown Belt during our 2024 BJJ Mental Models Camp.

Congratulations again to Jen on reaching this milestone in her Jiujitsu journey. She has not only greatly increased her skill in preparation for this promotion but did so while rehabbing injuries, starting a new career, helping build and manage PandaRoll and being a mom.

I'm looking forward to seeing her continued growth on and off the mats!

Just wrapped up our first BJJMM mini camp with and . Nearly 8 hours of instruction and rolling to improve your ability to use proper alignment to defend submissions.

I just rolled an hour straight with almost everyone in this photo, including about half a dozen black belts, that's a new record for me! 🥵
Day 1 of the camp with our hosts focused on choke defense via the concepts of Alignment, Lever Control, and Primary & Secondary Submission Theory.
Thanks to everyone for the great turnout and awesome training! Looking forward to tomorrow!
