After 47 amazing years Village Sport Shop has arrived at a point to welcome the closing chapter in a long history with you all. We feel there is a lot to be proud of and grateful for from all the years in operation and are graciously stepping aside and passing the torch forward. In closing this chapter we have transitioned our Trailside operations over to KC&E Adventures. KC&E has operated in the area for many years and is proudly owned and operated by one of our early staff members on Darling Hill, Collin Daulong. Welcome back Collin! We couldn’t imagine a better way to pass the torch and complete the circle as VSS moves into the history books.

We’ve had a wonderful run over the last 47 years thanks to all of your support over those decades. We are eternally grateful for the memories, the opportunities to serve the community, and the cooperation and love from our staff, our customers and our vendor partners; and we are confident that the amazing friendships and partnerships will endure through KC&E’s stewardship.

A lot has happened since VSS was born back in 1978 from John Hibshman's vision ...overseas manufacturing, online retail, social media, Smart wool, epidemics, fires and floods. But through all of the change and at times chaos, there has been one constant, finding refuge, calmness and clarity in nature. Be it Burke Mountain, Kingdom Trails, Lake Willoughby or your own backyard, we have felt blessed to be a part of the positivity that comes from engaging with nature and feeling the freedom it provides!

You all will be forever in our hearts and minds as we transition from the Village Sport Shop family to new ventures ahead! With the utmost gratitude we say THANK YOU to you all!

We look forward to the next steps, and are excited to see what KC&E has in store for the community. It has been an honor and wonderful journey for us at VSS and we are forever grateful for the opportunity to have served you!

THE END OF AN ERA, AND NEW BEGINNINGS
Here's to moving forward with gratitude, courage, and anticipation of what's next!

It is with mixed emotion that we inform everyone the Village Sport Shop is exiting the ski industry, and permanently closing our 511 Broad Street location in Lyndonville. For nearly 50 years we have identified ourselves as a Ski Shop, and to make the decision to stop providing that aspect to you all was not easy to make or taken lightly. We have thoroughly enjoyed providing generations of skiers and riders with equipment. Having grown up in the shop, some of my fondest memories revolve around the ski industry. Having sold or rented equipment to people as children and then to eventually do the same for their children or grandchildren. It has been a way of life that I am extremely grateful for and has forged so many memories of working with my parents and sister growing up, plus the countless members of the extended VSS family that worked with us.
With the multiple flooding events we have endured and the evolution we have needed to take as a business, we have come to the decision it is time to turn our focus towards the summer side of the business and relieve ourselves from the flood risks the lowest lying real estate on the strip endures. As we make this transition, we want you all to know we had everyone in mind. We are working with a replacement business to provide the area with season lease equipment. We also know that our friends up the road at Sport Thoma will embrace the needs of retail and service we are leaving behind.
Although the shop is in rough shape currently and we are still deep in recovery mode as many others are, we have our eye on the future and making the best of these unfortunate events. The rain can wipe the chalk off our “keep on smilin” sign but as a community, we need to keep ourselves and each other smiling!
We recognize it is hard to think about skiing or riding this winter right now as we are all still cleaning up from these last catastrophic events and planning for the potential next. We want to just ease any worries for those of you who are thinking about this winter......there will be options for getting you and the kiddos on equipment. More information will come as we finalize the plans.
We THANK YOU for the years of support you have given us in the ski industry and hope we have left a good mark for you in the years we have been supplying the equipment, service and knowledge. It was a strong passion of mine personally and look forward to continuing to get out on the mountain with you all!
As we turn our focus from the ski industry towards the bike operations and experience-based recreation you may have noticed a reduction in some of our retail offerings. This is to allow for time and energy to be put into more programmatic and experience-based operations. We will continue to offer essential need items and the purchase of bikes, however as we move forward you will also see more capacity in our rental and experience side of the business.
Stay tuned as Village Sport Shop continues to rebound from this last round.
