Congratulations to Brooke Skovira for being chosen as October’s Alumni Spotlight!

Sport: Ski and Snow
Graduation Year: 2015
Current Occupation: Partner Success Manager at Brook Health

Brooke was a part of the Ski and Snow team for all four years that she attended Liberty University. She currently lives in snowy Buffalo, NY with her husband and their two Siberian Huskies. They love to ski and snowboard in the winter and love all things outdoors.

Favorite Memory: The best memory I have with my team was when we competed at the USCSA nationals at Mt. Bachelor in Bend, Oregon. Our team stayed in a beautiful cabin in the mountains. We spent an entire week snowboarding on the slopes and just taking in the view in. It was my first time snowboarding on the West Coast, and I will never forget that feeling. It was the most incredible trip, and it was an honor to represent our school, and ultimately our faith, as followers of Christ. As an East Coast team competing on the West Coast, no one from the West Coast teams expected us to be good. Our Men’s and Women’s teams swept the podium and placed for women’s and men’s slopestyle and rail jam events. We were able to connect with individuals from other college teams and they had a lot of questions about Liberty and Snowflex since it is unique. I’m eternally grateful for the opportunities I had as a Club Sports athlete at Liberty.

Best Advice for Current Students: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to have it all figured out before graduation. Things will fall into place for you. Take every opportunity to learn something new and don’t be afraid to fail. If you do inevitably fail at something new, view failure as your first attempt at learning. Put yourself out there and make connections. Take advantage of your network at Liberty and don’t be afraid to connect with alumni or professors! If an opportunity you had your hopes set on doesn’t work out, view this as a reflection instead of a rejection. Pursue servant leadership and let your life and actions be your testimony to others. Remember He works all things for good.

Congratulations to Cole Gammer for being chosen as September’s Alumni Spotlight!

Sport: Men’s D1 Hockey
Graduation Year: 2021
Current Occupation: Medical Device Sales

Cole played on the Men’s D1 Hockey team for all four years that he attended Liberty University. He has fond memories of being a Club Sports athlete like the road trips that he got to be a part of with his team and coaches. Cole even met his now wife, Julie, during his time at Liberty. Julie and Cole are both from Edmonton, Alberta, but they did not meet each other until they both came to LU! In his spare time, Cole enjoys playing golf, hanging out with friends, and watching hockey.

Favorite Memories: One of my favorite memories is our comeback game against the University of Ohio in November of 2019. We were losing 3-0 in the 3rd period and scored 3 goals in less than a minute to tie up the game. We ended up making the full comeback in the game and winning in a shootout. It’s a great memory I’ll share with my teammates and coaches. Although that game is a big highlight, the majority of my fondest memories from hockey were spent joking around and telling stories on the bus and in the locker room. I also cherished my last season, when I was able to play alongside my brother, Brett. We got to score a few goals together, something we had never gotten the chance to do in minor hockey because of our 3 year age difference, so that was really special!

Best Advice for Current Students: Enjoy every moment at Liberty, you will make friends for life! Also, utilize Liberty’s incredible resources to strengthen your relationship with Christ. Don’t forget to take advantage of the Bible courses offered at LU!
