🏀🤝 That's a wrap from VHSL Live at The St. James Performance Academy in Northern Virginia. What a weekend.
This is a special group of young men that is really starting to come together.
✅ 4-0 on the weekend
✅ Wins over 4A, 5A, and 6A competition
✅ Undefeated at a team camp for the first time in the past three years
We were without JoJo, Judah, Elijah, and James, but our guys found a way to dig in and get the job done.
Game ☝️, we built a 21-point lead against a talented Atlee squad before weathering a big second-half run to close it out.
Game ✌️, not many in the building gave us much of a chance against a long, athletic, and physically imposing Glen Allen team. Truthfully, after falling behind 8-2, I had my concerns too. But this team is tough as nails. We settled in, defended at a high level, and played our best basketball of the weekend to earn a huge win.
As coaches, you always worry about a letdown after a big victory. Colonial Forge had other plans. The 6A Eagles gave us everything we could handle. With 1.5 seconds remaining, a free throw put us down two and things looked bleak.
Then came the moment of the weekend.
💥 Colton Davis fired a rope the length of the court to a streaking Miles Davis. One dribble. Pull-up jumper. BANG.
Overtime.
The momentum had shifted, and our guys finished the job.
The final game against Woodbridge was important. We challenged our players not to let their foot off the gas, and they responded with another complete performance to finish the weekend 4-0.
🤝💪 But weekends like this are about much more than basketball.
🚍🛎🍔🕹They're about bus rides, hotel rooms, team meals, and a night at Dave & Buster's. They're about conversations, laughter, memories, and building trust with one another.
The foundation is being set.
Our guys were relentless. They were connected. They played with a chip on their shoulder. Most importantly, they played for each other.
