Letโ€™s talk about one of the biggest misconceptions about what we do!
So many people do not understand why and think that it must be SO hard to sell horses weโ€™ve grown to love. I think a lot of people do judge and frown upon it.โค๏ธ And while there are certainly bittersweet moments, I can honestly say that one of the most rewarding parts of our job is getting to see these horses go on to become such an important part of someone elseโ€™s life.

We get to enjoy them, love on them, make memories with them, and really get to know who they are. Our kids get to grow up surrounded by some of the most incredible horses, and we get the privilege of sharing those same horses with other families.

And thatโ€™s what I think some people sometimes overlook. We arenโ€™t the only ones who can give these horses a wonderful life. There are families out there who will love them every bit as much as we do, and often have even more time and attention to devote to them ๐Ÿฉท

When I watch Cooper out here with a horse like this, I canโ€™t help but think about the next little boy or girl who will get to make these same memories. The confidence theyโ€™ll gain, the adventures theyโ€™ll have, and the friendship theyโ€™ll build over the years.

THAT is what makes this job so rewarding.

We donโ€™t have to keep every special horse that comes through our gates to appreciate just how special they are. Sometimes the greatest joy is knowing we helped someone else find the horse theyโ€™ve been dreaming of. โค๏ธ

Hollywood is one of my favorites. I know, they are all kinda my favorite in their own way. Heโ€™s such a good boy. He had a great appointment at the vet today- we got a set of X Rays done, and they are now uploaded to his ad in case anyone wants to check them out!

We saved the best for last, and when I say the best, I mean the BEST. I may even venture to say Hollywood might be the finest horse we have ever offered in the history of Double R Ranch Horses. And considering the horses weโ€™ve had come through our program, that is saying an awful lot, as weโ€™ve offered some pretty incredible horses. Heโ€™s a unicorn.

Heโ€™s 10 years old, and stands 15hh.

This horse is the cream of the crop. He is the gentlest soul, unbelievably honest, and has a heart of pure gold. I donโ€™t throw around the word perfect when it comes to horses, but goodness, Hollywood comes about as close as Iโ€™ve ever seen.
On the ground, Hollywood is an absolute gentleman. He is sweet, patient, loves attention, and has the kindest disposition. He will stand and wait on the kids to figure out how to get his halter on, and slowly follow them to the barn and then stand just as patiently while heโ€™s tacked up, bathed or groomed.
Nothing about him is complicated or difficult, and he is just as enjoyable to handle as he is to ride. Whether you ride once a day, once a week, or once a month, heโ€™s the same level headed and dependable horse, who wants nothing more than to please his rider.
Under saddle, Hollywood is everything you could ever ask for in a family horse. He is quiet, steady, forgiving, and exceptionally careful with his rider. He doesnโ€™t get offended when someone makes a mistake, doesnโ€™t take advantage of an inexperienced rider, and has more patience than most people I know!
What really sets Hollywood apart is how incredibly safe and careful he is. I trust this horse to take care of my children better than I trust myself to do it. There are very few horses in this world that I would put that kind of faith in, but Hollywood has earned every ounce of it!
He pays attention, thinks about what heโ€™s doing, and seems to understand when he has a little person on his back who needs him to be extra careful. You can see it in the way he carries himself. He will tiptoe along as slowly as Iโ€™ve ever seen. Hollywood is the type of gelding you can sit your child on and actually enjoy watching them ride instead of holding your breath the entire time. And for anyone who has spent much time around horses, you know just how rare that is. When kids give him confusing cues, he just quietly waits on them to sort it out. (Seriously we could all take a lesson on patience from him)

Out on the trail, Hollywood is an absolute dream. He is sensible, sure-footed, and takes his time navigating whatever is in front of him. He doesnโ€™t get worried, rushed, or worked up over things. He is content to ease along and enjoy the ride, and has the confidence and good sense to handle himself when the terrain gets difficult. Heโ€™s the horse you want underneath you when things donโ€™t go exactly as planned or if the trail gets rough. On a seasoned veteran like Hollywood, he makes the toughest trails feel easy. Out in traffic, he walks on without batting an eye or changing his pace. Heโ€™s rock solid if you shoot a gun off his back. Heโ€™s pushed steers, pen roped calves and isnโ€™t afraid of a hard days work.
I donโ€™t call horses bombproof- but Iโ€™m tempted to use it just this once to describe Hollywood.

This gelding has the patience to carry beginners, the gentleness to carry children, and the good mind to make riding enjoyable for anyone. He is the kind of horse that can help someone fall in love with riding, build confidence in someone who has lost it, or give an experienced rider the opportunity to simply relax and enjoy their horse. I have always said there is a big difference between a horse that has been trained to be gentle, and a horse that was born with it. You canโ€™t train what he has. And he is HONEST. He doesnโ€™t just behave because everything is going perfectly, heโ€™s had a million opportunities to take advantage, yet he still chooses to be good.

We have offered some phenomenal horses over the years. Horses that I have loved dearly and horses that have gone on to become irreplaceable members of their new families. But Hollywood is in a league of his own. I genuinely donโ€™t know that we will ever find another one quite like him.

If youโ€™ve been waiting for that once-in-a-lifetime horse, I truly believe this is him. Safe enough for the smallest riders, gentle enough for Grandma and Grandpa, patient enough for someone just learning, and special enough that even the most experienced horseman can appreciate what he is. Hollywood is an absolute saint, and I genuinely believe he is one of the finest family horses you will find offered anywhere on the market today. Period.

It will be awfully hard to watch this one leave our place, but whoever gets to call Hollywood theirs is going to have something incredibly special.

If youโ€™d like to schedule a meet and greet with Hollywood or would like additional information, contact Rachel Vick at 931-623-1706.

Meet Pendleton! An absolutely gorgeous 5 year old buckskin gelding, standing 15.1hh, that we have personally owned for the last three years.

He is one of the handiest horses on our place, and after three years of riding and using him, we know him extremely well. He is quiet and laid back, but there is a whole lot of ability there when you ask for it. Pendleton is easy to get along with. Heโ€™s kind and sweet, with a gentle demeanor, and will stand quietly and soak up any and all attention you will give him. Heโ€™s a gentleman on the ground, very easy to catch, and just an enjoyable horse to have around.

On his back, Pendleton is lots of fun. He is soft and responsive without being overly sensitive. He will walk slowly on a loose rein and is perfectly content to take his time and enjoy the ride. He has seen a lot in his 5 years, and has such a good mind!

Pendleton is an exceptionally good trail horse. We have hauled him all over the place and put countless miles on him through just about every kind of terrain you can imagine. I have never ridden a horse that I trust more to put his feet where they need to be. Iโ€™ve had Pendleton in some pretty sticky situations on the trail, and he is one you know you can count on every time. Thick brush, fallen trees, steep banks, deep mud, rough creek beds, he will pick his way through it. When things get a little hairy, he doesnโ€™t get worked up or rush. He stays level headed, takes his time, and gets you through it safely. He is easily one of the best trail horses Iโ€™ve ever ridden!

Pendleton has been used around the ranch checking and doctoring cattle, roping calves, loading them in the trailer, and for general ranch work. He is handy, user friendly, and handles pressure well.

Pendleton has plenty of potential if someone wants to specialize in just about any discipline. He has the athletic ability to make a really nice rope horse or barrel horse. He is smart, catches onto things quickly, and seems to genuinely enjoy a challenge. I also think he would make a really cool English horse! He has a beautiful stride, and we have taken him over some jumps just for fun. He sails over them effortlessly. He is naturally balanced, and I could absolutely see someone having a lot of fun with him in that area as well.

What I appreciate most about Pendleton is that he has all of this ability, and is yet is such an enjoyable ride if you just want to relax and chill. You can go use him, ask him to work, ride through the roughest areas on the trail, and then drop your reins and walk home.

If you are looking for a safe, good minded young horse that will last you for years, consider Pendleton!

No bad habits or vices. Clean legs and 100% sound.

PPE included and recently completed by Equine Vet, John Laster. (See end of photos.)

Ol Smoke hasnโ€™t turned a steer in several years! Someone called and ask if we could try to get a video- and here we are! Heโ€™s such a good boy. My favorite thing is after you work or use him, you can throw a kid on his back and he will take the best care of them. ๐Ÿ’™ Best boy ever.

Meet ๐Ÿ–คSmoke๐Ÿ–ค
A beautiful, stout-made gelding with a gorgeous smoky black color, a kind eye, and the kindest gentlest attitude. We have known Smoke for years, and he is hands down one of the safest trail horses we have ever offered. If safety is at the top of your list, Smoke is THAT horse.

11 years old, and standing 15hh.
On the ground, Smoke has good manners. He is easy to catch, stands tied quietly, bathes, loads, hauls, and behaves well for the vet and farrier.
Under saddle, Smoke is safe, steady, and forgiving. He is more whoa than go and prefers to ease along rather than be in a hurry. He has a comfortable walk, trot, and easy slow lope and has been ridden by beginners of all shapes, sizes, and experience levels. He has even been used to give riding lessons and build confidence!Smoke was previously owned and ridden by a gentleman in his 70s, and he is exactly the kind of horse that lets you relax, drop your hand, and enjoy your ride.
The same dependable gelding whether you ride him every day or give him time off. Saddle him up, step on, and go ride.

The longer youโ€™re around horses, the more you realize that truly SAFE horses are hard to find. Plenty of horses are gentle, and plenty ride good, but there is a difference between quiet and the kind you genuinely trust to take care of whoever is sitting on their back. Smoke has proven himself over and over again. Our 3-year-old, Cooper, has taken Smoke trail riding and ridden him independently down the trail. There arenโ€™t many horses in this world that I would turn my 3-year-old loose on, and Smoke is one of the few.

Out on the trail is where Smoke really shines. He is an amazing trail horse. He has been hauled to Buffalo River and ridden through steep hills, creek crossings, rocky terrain, mud, fallen trees, thick woods, and rough country and rivers. He is sure-footed, sensible, and confident. He doesnโ€™t get in a hurry, and he isnโ€™t looking for a reason to turn around and head home. He will ease along on a loose rein and let you actually enjoy the ride. Weโ€™ve even swam him and used him for a diving board in the river!

Smoke has been exposed to traffic, tractors, dogs, cattle, farm equipment, and all the everyday sights and sounds that come along with ranch life. He has plenty of miles and life experience under his belt, and very little rattles him.

He has also been a wonderful horse for the family. He is forgiving when cues arenโ€™t perfect and doesnโ€™t get rattled or fussy when someone makes a mistake. For someone who is nervous, inexperienced, getting back into riding after some time away, or simply doesnโ€™t want to spend their ride wondering what their horse is going to do next, Smoke is worth his weight in gold!!

He is also a finished head and heel horse. It has been a few years since he has been used regularly in the roping pen, so he would need a little tuning back up, but the foundation and training are there.

Smoke is the kind of gelding people spend years looking for. Safe enough for the kids, seasoned enough for Grandma and Grandpa, forgiving enough for a beginner, and still trained enough to go do a job. He is one that can sit around, saddle up when youโ€™re ready, and go enjoy the day. Heโ€™s truly one in a million- and we know his next partner will love him as much as we do!

Clean-legged, 100% sound, requires no maintenance. Passed his Pre Purchase Exam, completed by Equine Vet John Laster.

AQHA registered, 8 years old, Standing 15.1hh, this handsome bay gelding has been my personal horse for the last year and a half. The only reason heโ€™s being offered for sale is because Iโ€™m looking to step up to something a little more competitive on the head side. Otherwise, Mouse wouldnโ€™t be leaving.

Heโ€™s been a big part of our life. Weโ€™ve hauled him all over, taken him on camping trips, ridden miles of trails, used him around the ranch, and trusted him to pack our kids around as well. I even won my first team roping saddle aboard Mouse at the USTRC roping!

Mouse is one of those geldings thatโ€™s just easy to have around. Heโ€™s gentle, has a big personality, and has a kind eye that matches his disposition. Heโ€™s upper-middle in the pecking order, heโ€™s used to a mixed herd. He enjoys attention, stands tied quietly, bathes, loads, hauls, and is good for the vet and the farrier.

Under saddle, Mouse has a smooth, comfortable trot thatโ€™s easy to sit, and an easy, rocking-chair lope. He moved off your leg, has a nice neck rein, and is soft in the bridle without being overly sensitive. Heโ€™s responsive, but heโ€™s on the slower side, and more โ€œwhoa than goโ€ type of horse.
Out on the trail, Mouse is confident, sure-footed, and level-headed. Heโ€™s crossed creeks, climbed hills, navigated rough terrain, and has been hauled new places. Heโ€™s happy riding alone or with a group and is just as enjoyable on a leisurely trail ride as he is putting in a dayโ€™s work.
Heโ€™s not a spooky type horse, weโ€™ve shot guns off of him, and fireworks too!
Around the ranch, Mouse has been used for pasture roping, doctoring cattle, checking fences, gathering livestock, and loading trailers. Heโ€™s the kind of horse thatโ€™s handy enough to be useful but quiet enough to enjoy.
Heโ€™s also loping a nice barrel pattern. While I wouldnโ€™t advertise him as a future 1D horse, he has the foundation to continue progressing and, more importantly, the willing attitude that makes him enjoyable to ride no matter what youโ€™re doing.

One of the things Iโ€™ve appreciated most about Mouse is his consistency. He doesnโ€™t need to be ridden every single day to stay honest. You can saddle him up and go enjoy him without wondering which version of your horse is going to show up. Heโ€™s good natured- knows how to take a joke, and heโ€™s just handy to have around.
I will definitely miss my buddy mouse when he sells.

If you are looking for a gorgeous gelding that you can take in just about any direction- check out Mouse.

100% clean legged and sound.

Contact Rachel Vick at 931-623-1706 for more information, or to set up a time to come see Mouse in person. Serious inquiries only please!

Strawberry is available via horsebid- https://bid.horsebid.com/lots/view/4-LPZ42Y/strawberry-shortcake

A beautiful double registered (APHA, ISHR) 10 year old red roan mare standing 15 hands with a gorgeous red roan coat, plenty of bone, and a nice build. She has a kind eye, a willing attitude, and the sort of disposition everyone is looking for. Sheโ€™s just a really classy mare, and weโ€™re excited to offer her! On the ground, Strawberry has excellent manners. Easy to catch, stands tied quietly, bathes, loads, hauls, and behaves well for the vet and farrier. Whether the barn is quiet or thereโ€™s commotion all around her, Strawberry is pleasant to be around.

The longer youโ€™re around horses, the more you realize that dependable is one of the hardest qualities to find. Plenty of horses are talented, but when things donโ€™t go according to plan, thatโ€™s when you find out what theyโ€™re really made of. Strawberry has always been the type of horse that keeps her head, stays honest, and simply gets the job done. Sheโ€™s so kind and honest.

Under saddle, sheโ€™s safe, steady, and forgiving, with a comfortable walk, trot, and lope that make her enjoyable for just about anyone. Our nine-year-old confidently heads and heels on her, and sheโ€™s just as happy spending the afternoon trail riding as she is gathering cattle. Sheโ€™s the same mare every time you throw a saddle on her, whether you rode her yesterday or three weeks ago.

Where Strawberry really separates herself is how level-headed she is. Weโ€™ve been in a couple of binds and cattle wrecks, and Iโ€™ll tell you this: sheโ€™s the horse I want to be sitting on if things go sideways. I never have to wonder if sheโ€™s going to lose her cool or make a bad decision. She waits on her rider and keeps doing her job. Point her at a stubborn cow, and sheโ€™ll move it. If one needs pushed over, sheโ€™ll push it over. I honestly think sheโ€™d go to the moon if you asked her.

Out on the trail, Strawberry is just as dependable. She confidently navigates steep hills, creek crossings, rocky terrain, mud, fallen trees, and thick woods with the same quiet attitude she brings everywhere else. Sheโ€™s been exposed to traffic, tractors, dogs, cattle, farm equipment, and all the everyday sights and sounds of ranch life without batting an eye.

Sheโ€™s also been a wonderful horse for our family. Whether itโ€™s carrying the kids around the farm or letting Wade rope on her, sheโ€™s always taken her job seriously. As a mom, thereโ€™s nothing more valuable than knowing your child is riding a horse thatโ€™s looking out for them too. Sheโ€™s incredibly forgiving. Sometimes the kidsโ€™ cues are confusing, and instead of getting rattled or fussy, she just tries her best to figure out what theyโ€™re asking.

If youโ€™re looking for something you can head or heel on at the jackpot, saddle up and hit the trails, or let your kids spend the afternoon making memories with, Strawberry is tried and true.

Strawberry is the kind of mare people spend years searching for. Horses like her donโ€™t come around very often, and weโ€™re proud to offer one of the best.

Clean-legged, 100% sound, and free of bad habits or vices.

If youโ€™d like to schedule a meet and greet with Strawberry or would like additional information, contact Rachel Vick
