Luverne made the long trip to Chickasaw and came home with a 56-6 win, opening region play with a convincing victory.
Quarterback Ja’Daveon McCreary had another big night for the Tigers. McCreary completed 9 of 13 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns while throwing two interceptions. He also rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries.
Elliot Harris continued to make plays both on the ground and through the air. Harris rushed three times for 79 yards and a touchdown, including a 61-yard run. He also caught four passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
Connor Schofield hauled in a 39-yard touchdown pass, while Trenton Clayton added a one-yard touchdown reception. Jayden Laird also found the end zone on the ground, finishing with 10 yards and a touchdown on two carries.
Luverne’s defense kept Chickasaw in check throughout the night. Caden Wiggins finished with four tackles, including three for loss. Daevon Smith recorded four tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack, while Laird added four tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack.
Jaylen Turner had two tackles, both for loss, along with a sack, and Kaiden Parker forced two fumbles.
“This was the next step as we were able to go 1-0 in region play,” Luverne head coach Bobby Hudson said. “We are glad to get our longest road trip of the season out of the way and loved the support from our community on the road. Biggest takeaway was we came out of the game 100% healthy and played all of our young guys. We are ready to be back in Glenn Daniel Stadium this week as we try to move to 2-0 in the region.”
Luverne will return home this week to host Hillcrest-Evergreen as the Tigers look to improve to 2-0 in region play.
