As a reminder, there were multiple factors behind our decision to cancel the 2025 Luna Rodeo.
NO ONE wanted to cancel the Luna Rodeo, including our board and the Forest Service/or Forest Rangers.

Canceling was our rodeo board’s decision. We were placed in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, and the county leaders issued a no burn restriction.

We made our decision on June 18th based off of the current fire risk of the time, as several of us have been impacted by fires in our area.
Every one of us—including those of you upset for the cancelation—have to make financial commitments to attend the Luna Rodeo , and a last minute cancellation would have been inconsiderate and expensive for our contestants, spectators, AND rodeo!

It was hard. We REALLY DID NOT WANT TO DO IT. But it was our decision.

Regardless of the rain other parts of the area have seen, Luna still hasn’t received significant moisture. North of Luna (the rodeo grounds and much more) is still dry, and our crowd numbers pose a significant fire risk. Those of you who live here in Luna know how much a fire here would devastate us.

As a second reminder, there will be a Hamburger/Hotdog Fry on Friday evening, the LUNA DANCE Friday evening, and the LUNA PARADE on Saturday morning! It will be a grand time!

It's everyone's worst fear.

As several fires have popped up during this dry and windy fire season, we have waited with bated breath and prayed hard for rain. The forecast does bring hope for an excellent monsoon...whenever it decides to begin, that is! Unfortunately, we have not received enough 2025 moisture by today, June 18, 2025, and we feel it is our duty to make the choice we hate to make.

We have been struggling with this and decided we would wait until the absolute last minute to cancel our event. We also decided that June 18 had to be our cutoff date for this big decision, especially to show as much courtesy to our contractors and spectators as possible, and give them time to make other plans.

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that we have to cancel our precious 2025 Luna Rodeo. It is the best and most respectful thing we can do for our community, as we would be devastated if our event was responsible for a wildfire breakout in Luna.

We are SO GRATEFUL for your support—the Luna Rodeo cannot happen without you! We are honored and blessed by you, your support, your participation, your excitement, and your business, and we look forward to gathering next year at our 2026 Luna Rodeo!

2025 Luna Rodeo preparations/entries are currently on hold due to escalating drought conditions.

Luna rodeo grounds are located on forest land and require permitting each year. Due to the high drought conditions and potential fire hazard, we are uncertain at this time if conditions will allow the rodeo to ‘go on’. When the best course of action has been determined, an update will be posted on this webpage. Thank you for your support! We are so sorry for any inconvenience this causes, as we understand this is an opportunity for reunions and revelry!
